Fatigue, malaise, brain fog, headaches, tinnitus

Greetings everybody,

So my son is having major issues. He complains of symptoms mentioned in the title for the last 5 or 6 weeks. In the last month symptoms have gotten worse.

He has been to the cardiologist and did multiple complete metabolic panels, been to the ER quite a few times.

He is easily fatigued, says he cant think clearly, has headaches and constantly hears buzzing sound in his ears. Sometimes he complains of feeling of pressure in his stomach. He says that he doesnt wake up feeling refreshed but tired as if he hasnt slept at all. He is in his 20s.

He used anabolic steroids from march to june. After that he used what he calls "a replacement dose of testosterone" to keep his levels within normal range, tom prevent habing low testosterone levels. The problem is that steroids (testosterone enanthate) were obtained through illegal means.

He didn't have any side effects ( at least he says so) while he was using steroids but roughly 2 weeks into his "replacement dose" he started experiencing extreme fatigue, says he couldn't stand on his feet normally.

What also happened is that he lost about 1500ml of blood due to an accident in late june and symptoms of extreme fatigue and shortness of breath followed shortly. We tested for anemia but his hemoglobin and blood count were always superb (on the high side, because of steroids).

But his iron was low so he started to supplement iron. He says he felt a bit better after 2 weeks but not normal.

Then, about a month ago, he started experiencing extreme fatigue and shortness of breath, malaise. Sort of very low blood pressure as he described it. He regularly checked his blood pressure and it is always perfect, 120/70.

Doctor recently started him on hCG to get his testosterone up and he doesnt feel shortness of breath anymore but still feels extreme fatigue, malaise, headaches and buzzing in his ears.

What is interesting is he says that he doesnt feel weak in the gym, says he ddidnt lose any strength and doesnt feel any additional fatigue from lifting weights. But he is constantly fatigued and has brain fog, as if he has a flu.

My personal worry is that he has poisoned himself with heavy metals or something, maybe metals or toxins were present in his steroids. He bought powders and filtered everything, never had an infection or adverse reaction, but stilllm heavy metals could be there.

We are thinking of testing for heavy metal presence in his blood (because his hair is only 1cm long doctor said it wouldnt be accurate for anything prior to last month).

However, both primary care physician and toxicologist think that heavy metal poisoning, even though there may have been something in the powders (testosterone enanthate), is highly unlikely and that his issues are due to fluctuating hormones or maybe even psychiatric issues sparked by anabolic steroids.

I would kindly ask for your help. In, short, for those who dont want to read everything:

  • son is experiencing fatigue, brain fog, headaches, buzzing in his ears
  • used anabolic steroids (testosterone enanthate) march to mid june
  • doctors cant find anythin wrong with him, liver and kidney panels are fine, they suspect psychiatric issues

Could this be from heavy metals? Or maybe some other toxins? And how is it possible (if heavy metal poisoning is the case) that symptoms started after he stopped illegal steroids? I talked to quite a few steroid users and they say that heavy metal poisoning from illegal steroids is extremely rare, they never heard of cases like that and they all use massive amounts of illegal drugs.

We also tested his ferritin, it is 60 on a scale of 20-250. I read about iron deficiency without anemia which often times presents itself at ferritin under 100. His symptoms did coincide with his heavy blood loss and he has never been the same ever since.

Help, advice, thoughts are extremely welcome.

I also forgot to add that he says his hands routinely fall asleep as soon as he falls asleep, and also he wakes up every morning with one or both of his hands asleep.

During the day he doesnt get severe numbness in his hands, but as soon he falls asleep, hands fall asleep too.

His hematocrit is 52% (creeping up again) and he comforts me that it is due to the poor blood flow as he had this before when his hematocrit got up to about 53 %. He used to donate blood to lower his hematocrit but now he cant becuase his ferritin is not very good (60 on a scale of 20-250).

But i am again worried it might be peripheral nerve damage from heavy metals or other toxins.

I'm not a Doctor but this sounds familar to me. Get a tick panel done. Not just lyme either, co-infections too. Anaplasma, babesia and bartonella etc.
