Fatty Liver

Hope someone can help.

1st Nov '18 - I had a sharp stabbing attack on the right side of my body (Just above my liver). This lasted for 1 minute and was a shock to the body. Since then I've recorded the attacks, they start off from 1 a day and at it's worst in Dec they were every 20 minutes for 18 hours.

My doctor referred me for an ultra sound after high raised blood. The ultrasound confirmed a fatty liver and was confirmed by my GP. They can't explain the pain and when I had all this confirm in late Jan I wasn't feeling any pain and hadn't since the end of Dec. Since the start of Feb the sharp stabbing pains have come back and have increased over the last 3 weeks from 1-2 times a week to today (18/03/19) 8 times in the last 10 hours.

Can anyone relate to this pain as I'm sure it's not what has been diagnosed. The Sharp attacks last for 10 seconds and come without any warning, it's like a feeling of a knife going in to me.

Could it be appendicitis? I've heard that appendicitis pain can come and go. Also, have you noticed if it happens more after eating certain foods?

There is no pattern to when the pain comes and goes unfortunately. Eating or drinking doesn't give a pattern and it usually wakes me up through the night.

I'm up to 18 attacks so far today lasting around 30 secs.

The pain is in line with my belly button and to the right hand side of my body.

      Thanks for your reply.

No symptoms unfortunately. Just got back from A & E, even they're perplexed. Hopefully a scan tomorrow.

Doctor thought it was gallstones but the pain isn't where the gallbladder is.

That is perplexing. I'm sorry you're going through this, it must be very frustrating, as well as painful. I'll hope you'll give an update after the scan. Best to you.

Well it's been a week since I was in hospital. I spent 6 hours going through blood tests and my 2nd Ultrasound. I got to speak with a surgeon, she advised there is evidence of a fatty liver. I asked how fatty is it and she couldn't answer that question.

She went on to say the sharpe stabbing pains I'm getting, these could be caused by types of food I'm eating i.e. spices and also I had to make sure I'm not drinking hot/very cold liquids. She said if the pains continue then I will have a camera down my throat to investigate further. In the mean time I was given Lansoprazole, 30mg once a day before eating.

I know the above is for acid and I don't suffer from it but that is their offer of comfort which is like following the rule book but knowing it's not helping.

I've suffered the attacks everyday since but not as sharpe as before. Still at a loss as to what it is.....so are the doctors.

What an ordeal. It's so frustrating when the doctors can't tell you definitively what is going on, and offer a solution. I guess if it were me I would look for diet connections. It's good that the attacks are not as sharp, but would be better to get rid of them altogether. Is there a specialist that your sono results could be sent to?
