Fatty Liver Diagnosis

Hello

following an ultrasound and normal blood tests I have just received a diagnosis of fatty liver and am looking for some help / guidance.

Other than providing me with the diagnosis and advising me never to drink alcohol again i feel my GP has been very short with no guidance or support.

i am still in constant pain after being absistence for 12 weeks

My head is in a spin with it all of im being honest but below are a few of the questions burning:

  • how does my GP know its caused by alcohol, i have drank above guidlines during lockdown but my diet and weight is also excessive
  • should i be offered further tests / treatment or referred to a specialist ( i have not drank alcohol for 12 weeks and still have constant abdominal pain)
  • should i be offered on follow on care or check ups at intervals?
  • how significant is the damage to liver, can this be assessed or diagnosed from the ultrasound

any support and advice appreciated

I too am newly diagnosed (fatty liver with some fibrosis but not cirrhosis) and apart from being told to lose weight have had no no help from the medical people.

I was actually quite shocked my liver wasn't down to alcohol - apart from the last handful of years my drinking has been very bad, but apparently the say it isn't. Who am I to disagree.

I have a follow up appointment with the gastro doctor in January and that's it. Mind you everything I have been diagnosed with over the last who know how many years has always been followed with 'lose weight' - it's a cure-all, yay!!!

So, here's me, finally doing it (hopefully)
