fear of dying... please help.

I was diagnosed with health anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, PTSD, and moderate depression.

My health anxiety is what's worse than anything else.

I'm conviced I have a blood clot in my lungs or I'm having a stroke or something.

I feel like I'm not breathing right now. Like I'm not getting enough oxygen. It feels like I'm inhaling and filling my lungs but with nothing. My feet feel cold, my arm feels weak, I feel and keep thinking I'm going to fie. I feel like if I talk, I don't make sense or don't know what I'm saying. I'm scared to talk because of that and I'm just afraid I'm dying.

I've been to the hospital many times for the same reason I'm typing this down. I mean several times. Like about 50 or more. I have gotten EKG'S, chest x rays, blood work, and two catscans and have never found anything and been told I'm 100% healthy but why do I feel like this if I'm healthy? Why do I feel short of breathe, dizzy, and have pain in my body?

Is what I'm feeling anxiety or actually something real and it's an illness?

I've been seen by my primary doctor and several different doctors at the hospital and they all say I'm healthy and it's just anxiety...

    Dear Zeidy,

Health Anxiety what you have described is Commonly known as Hypochondria, It can get debilitating at times,

But you know what, You have insight to talk about it...

    And that's GREAT!!

    ..

Anxiety cannot harm you..... You may feel like you are losing control, But you are not...

Try to see if there is a Professional Cognitive Behavior therapy available near you.

Also it would help to have a talk with your Health Practitioner...

You are not going Mad..... Don't worry, these things happen sometimes in Life...

    ...

And remember to Breathe... for yourself... 10 minutes a day... very slow breaths, atleast 5 seconds breathe in....hold 2 seconds..... 5 seconds breathe out... hold 3 seconds, do this counting subconciously and breathe all that negativity out.

Everything you are experiencing is related.  Nobody has to live with PTSD or panic disorder for any length of time.  Talk to someone who can help you with these - your doctor may be able to refer you to a psychologist or trauma specialist.  You could also try a Hypnotherapist privately but don't expect any Medical professional to recommend this course - they simply won't -often they will just give you pills.

Learning to manage your stress and anxiety is a skill that everyone should learn - Anxiety is not your personality it something that can be managed and all the symptoms that go with it can be greatly reduced.

    Hi Heyzeidy

without being personal can I ask what medication you are on and how long, I only ask because with your complex diagnosis I would imagine you are on SSRIs and if you have recently started them (last month or so) the side effects are pretty varied. Also you won't be the first or last to have psychosomatic illness, I've thought I was genuinely having a heart attack before now due to anxiety (pre meds) and other on this site have reported simular. Anxiety is a pain because although it's neurological it affects other body systems which can be interpreted as illness, add that to a bit of Dr Google and you can easily psych yourself out.

i hope this makes sense, let me know how you get on

      Hello, David.

I was prescribed zoloft back in January but stopped them because it made everything worse.

I then didn't take anything for my anxiety uo until two weeks ago. I was having bad panic attacks so I went to the hospital and was given Ativan while there and prescribed xanax. I was taking xanax everyday but I was only given 9.

My therapist scheduled an appointment with a physiologist yesterday and she prescribed buspirone and some other medication that I have to take as needed, sorry I forgot the name of it.

I'm also starting CBT but I'm convinced I'm havi b a stroke or I'm just dying right now.

Heyzeidy slow down, try & calm your mind, you've been checked out by doctors be reassured you have high anxiety & nothing else.

Yes it's a horrible feeling but your feeding it by all the negative thoughts.

Have a cry or do some exercise if you can, this will burn off some of the adrenalin that's built up.

You'll feel better soon, we all know how you feel

Let us know how you feel in a while x

The therapy should help. You have to be open minded to what they tell you. I was just so desperate to stop feeling so rotten that i took it in and worked hard to change it. I think you should possibly be on some reliable medication at least in the short term, but possibly longer. The trouble with medication is it can sometimes take some weeks to kick in and the side effects can affect some people quite bad.  But give these things a go, and deep breathing, exercise, eat well and try to maintain a healthy sleep pattern. Anxiety is awful but it can improve and you can get better!

Okay firstly I'm guessing your not in the UK as I had to look up your meds lol in the UK they would be Diazepam and generally only given in short courses, CBT is a good way to deal with anxiety and hypnotherapy can also be very effective but I don't know if it is offered where you are it certainly isn't in the UK which is a shame. As the other have said you are doing great just by talking about your feelings and you will make good progress because whilst you are scared you have a physical ailment I think you also understand the anxiety has a big part in his. Stay strong xx

I know EXACTLY how you feel! Ive been to the ER literally 20 times in the last year! Ive had numerous ekgs, blood work, stress echo, regular echo and even a cardiac ct and all have been fine. I'm dizzy and off balance all the time, have chest and arm pains. I still feel like something is not right and the Drs are missing something. My PCP thinks I have panic disorder and has referred me on to a Psychiatrist. I went and seen her, she says thoughts are all over the place and put me on klonopin and lutuda and said I needed to see counselor. Im TIRED of feeling this way and ready to be back to my "normal" self. sad

      Hello, Randall.

      I'm from California and I'm 21.

I've just recently been feeling like this. And by recently I mean 6 months ago. It's tough, I know it all leads to anxiety but I can't seem to believe it with all the aches and pains I have.

I've been to Tennessee before. It's nice over there.

Sorry you are suffering like this, HeyZeidy. I am not a medic but it seems obvious to me that you have anxiety problems and nothing else. Believe the experts when they tell you - they check these issues every day and know what they're talking about.

Anxiety manifests itself in different ways. You have got to relax. You are causing all these symptoms yourself.

Work on it - be happy.

    Best wishes.

I've had a fear of dying/convinced I'm dying for 11 years, I have voices in my head that tell me I'm going to.. This could be because I cut my finger or because of my zopiclone abuse! 8 years in..

    I have severe insomnia too
