Fear of sleep

Hi, my girlfriend has been having troubles sleeping for a couple of months now. It started of with her falling asleep and waking up with what she called as jumps where she would fall asleep too fast and her body would try and wake her up. As she’s just turned 19 the doctor was very reluctant to give her anything to help her sleep. After a couple of months her sleeping got worse and we read online and found information that it could be cause by her anxiety. She went back to the doctors to try get some anxiety tablets which helped for a while. But have recently stopped working she also takes melatonin as it’s supposed to help with her sleeping. Now though the jumps have been turned in to what she describes as horrible dreams which end up with her getting a weird pulling feeling which pulls her out of sleep. We’re very worried about her as she gets less sleep now then she did when she got the jumps and she stays up all night crying in fear of going back to bed.
