Fecal Immunochemical Testing with bleeding in mouth?

Fecal Immunochemical Testing (FIT) is said to "only detect blood from the lower intestines". Can it affect the test results if I have some bleeding in my mouth, some of which is swallowed? If not - how does it do the trick of distinguishing between different bloods?
