Fecal Loading Help

Hi,

After having some gut/abdominal and general digestive distress for three months I was diagnosed with some "fecal loading" via an x-ray. You can read my original post here if you would like some background to my situation: https://patient.info/forums/discuss/not-diagnosed-but-doc-thinks-ibs-but-symptoms-aren-t-typical-485386

I found out about this after I had an ultrasound and asked what the results of my x ray were (if anything). It was the person who carried out the ultrasound, not the GI doctor who informed me (not the best person to be giving out advice from his own submission) but said it looked minor and not to worry. However, I then get home and have a phonecall from my doctors surgery to say I've been prescribed cosmicol for constipation and fecal loading. I had to pick it up from the chemist.

Great, I thought, perhaps this is why I've been having all of the digestive distress, pains etc and I would finally be on the road to recovery. Well, after a week the sachets seemed to be working. But I've been on them since 31st December 15, takimg two sachets a day for a week going down to one and now I feel the fulness back in my rectum, with the same bulging/bloating on my left abdoman. Not as bad as it was, but still feel like there is something there wanting to come out. I've been going to the loo everyday but it's my understanding that with fecal loading, stools can still pass by what's stuck.

Basically my question is, does anybody have experience with fecal loading? How long did you have to take your sachets/prescribed meds for until everything settled down?

I didn't actually have a chat with a doctor about what fecal loading is and haven't managed to find any information, not even on the NHS, about fecal loading.

Is there anything else I should be doing? I'm trying to drink more water (around 2 litres a day), I have always had a healthy diet and try to eat right and avoid too much bulking foods. In fact the GI doctor even told me that in my case he doesn't think that diet will help me atall and that he thinks everything will die down soon. Well here I am nearly four months on and I have to admit, I am a lot better than I was but I do still feel like I'm geting backed up as the day goes on.

I've also got an endocopy booked for this Thursday just to rule out other possible upper GI issues as I have also been burping a lot and feeling nauseous. Nausea has drastically calmed down to infrequent as has burping but still occuring on a daily basis.

Anyway, any insight would be great. Thanks in advance.

Well.. From my own experience and issues the burping and gas issues are because the gas isn't passing as freely through your rectum as it should as the stools are trapping it.

That feeling you have that there's more in there and you need to go.. You're most likely right and some glyercol suppositories (adult size 4g) will help you out big time and have you going in 15-30 mins if there's anything sitting in the last leg of the intestines.

Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a mug of warm water helps gas pass as does using lots of black pepper on food.. If you're feeling queazy then quarter/half a teaspoon of bi-carb in warm water will get the gas out (via burping) much quicker.
