fed up

Hi,

I see, to have a very "cyclic" depression, i can be fine for few months, then have period of depression for couple weeks , then back to normal. There is no real reason for it, poss chemical inbalace or genetic.

I have had this for 15 years or so. Been on venlafixine (tried couple SSRI's but couldnt tolerate side effects) for about 10 years. Recently tried swithc meds (to those SSRI's) but didnt work so now back on to Ven.

I am in a depressive period now which has been going on since tried switching meds in March. Getting so fed up of it all. I just want a period of normality.

Has anyone else experience of this "cyclic" depression?

Hello, had to reply to your post.

First time on forum so I hope it's ok. It

sounds like we are going through the same.

I too have periods where I feel fine but then drop into massive lows. It's awful sometimes isn't it. I rarely feel like myself, and have forgotten my real self.

I am thinking of you and I hope it helps to hear that you are not alone. I think talking to doctor would be good, and I should listen to my own advice on that one.

I hope things ease for you and we come out of this low patch soon.

    Xxxx

How often do your "cycles" happen and how long do they last?

      You on any meds?

      Hello,

      Thanks for reading.

I'm on 100mg Sertraline and have been on them for three years. Prior to that was on 60mg of Citalopram for two years. I started anti depressants whilst in an abusive relationship. They made me strong enough to leave him. About a year after that, I had my first breakdown which I put down to post traumatic stress following years of emotional abuse. During this patch I switched to sertraline and went to private therapy and did a CBT course. six months afterwards I was feeling great, thought I was free but then it came back a few months later.

That was 18 months ago and since then I've had three bouts of low mood during that time. This last patch has lasted a couple of months and im now unemployed as can't hold down a job. I have no self esteem, not enjoying life and I'm jealous if everyone around me that are successful. That's an awful thing to say, but I just hate me so much.

Sorry, went on a bit too much about me then. What about you? Are you on meds? Have you had any therapy? How long do your low moods last?

      Thanks so much for reading.

Sounds like your latest one is worse than previously, so it's good you are getting help.

I personally think therapy is one of the best ways to help with depression, but it needs to be the right one for you. Make sure you are happy with your therapist as it's good to be as open an honest with them as you feel possible.

It's a tough thing to go through these low patches, but hopefully your therapist will help you through. Maybe this forum will too? I'm new to Forums and chat rooms, how long have you been using this one?

The forums are a good way to ask any questions you want to know answers to , usually there is always someone out there that can help.

i've been using this one for about 4 months and found it very helpful

Gemmy, this is the place to go on about yourself and how you feel.  Get it off your chest, put it out there, you may feel a little better by doing it. I have found the people on here are genuine and supportive but most of all, have been there and so understand.
