Fed up coughing

Hi folks

3 months ago I started with a dry cough plus a virus.I also suffer from mild asthma.

My symptoms continued to a point where my Gp referred me to an Ent specialist and prescribed me steroids. The consultant put a camera up my nose down into my throat and concluded I had a mild infection which he gave me x2 weeks of antibiotics for and 6 weeks worth of steroid drops. He also said I had acid reflux.

i took the antibiotics and completeted the course. Stayed on the drops for 3 weeks but felt they irritated my airway so stopped them.

The antibiotics finished last thurs I've got the acid reflux under control.....all good. Saturday morning the cough started again and is as bad. I'm having my inhalers like their going out of fashion to try and continue breathing. At a loss as what to do......I feel rubbish.

Been on my hen do today, enjoyed it but felt rough. I get married on the 9 th April and go on hunny moon but feel I'm not going to enjoy it all as I can't get myself back to full health.

Tried reading up on possible reasons for my symptoms which point to basically nothing to worry about to chronic long term problems which I don't feel I've got. I'm kind of In between acute and chronic symptoms......

ideas welcome

    Hi deb,

If you're not coughing up yukky mucus, and the doctor didn't indicate you had any underlying  problems apart from a mild infection (which hopefully has cleared up now) .. maybe a good cough medicine would do the trick? One for dry tickly coughs maybe?

A bronchial infection can sometimes leave you with a hacking cough for weeks afterward, and If the cough is keeping you awake at night and you're not getting a good nights sleep, there's no wonder you feel lousy.

Have a word with your doctor first and see what he thinks.

    Hi deb50

First thing is don't panic - yet I think your GP should have referred you to a Thoracic Chest Consultant as coughing on a regular and constant basis is not right.

However, being cynical - if you can go on a Hen do (your words - not mine) then there can't be too much wrong with you! (This I feel how others might read the situation)

Go back to your GP and tell him this treatment is not working. (if you are not careful you will overdose on your inhalers and this could make your problem worse.
