This is basically Quinine. Used for Malaria. Often prescribed for Lupus. I never heard of anyone having complications that effected their eyes. I think that is a rare side effect. Quinine has saved many lives and greatly improved the quality of numerous others. Your MD has decided that the benefits outweigh any risks involved. I would try it.

Also, you'll know if it is effecting your eyes. There are little gradual warning signs.

Hi, I took his drug (brand name Plaquinel, used for other autoimmune diseases like lupus also), but it did not work for me.  That said, it could work for you, so give it 6-9 months.  It takes at least 6 months to start to work.

Only thing that worked for me is Prednisone.  Took the Plaquinel with it, then hope was it would help after I tapered off the Prednisone, but it did not.

Had to stop the Prednisone because I developed steroid induced cataracts.  The Plaquinel can cause macular degeneration if you are on a high dose and/or on it for a long time (about 5 years) or older than 60 or prone to that (my mom had macular degeneration), so since it did not work for me, I decided to go off of it.

Good luck.  Hope it helps you.  Did not have any side effects.

There are new steroids on the market now that do not have the side effects of Prednisone. They have some but, not like Prednisone. I just went on one exactly one week ago tomorrow. Aaahhh, the difference is just one week!! I started cleaning/scrubbing my fridge at 9.30 PM tonight. Usually I'm a zombie by now.

there are better tablets such as iminoral, which has fewer side effects. Surely all anti ammune tablets have many many side effects, but I believe that consequences of LP are much more than these side effects.

Exactly. Side effects to each individual are different. And some may have none. LP is definite. Side effects are just a maybe. And controllable and can be watched out for. I deem LP uncontrollable in that we never know when it's going to hit. Or how long it will last this time. I would always take the meds to see if they help. And journal daily regarding my health including diet, meds, and any outcomes. We have to stick together on this regardless which side of ocean we're on. In one of my other Support Groups, a person has been on a synthetic steroid consistently for over 3 years with no side effects.
