Hi River, I've been on Cimzia for over a year and thought it was helping until my Rheumatologist suggested changing me to weekly Actemra injections. I resisted at first but I've now been on it for four weeks, no sideffects and I can honestly say I've not felt this good in years, the brain fog has lifted, no pain (still a bit stiff) and I feel almost back to my normal self.
It was explained to me that each of us with RA may be targeted by a different part of the immune system and each of these biologics target different parts of the immune system which is why they change them until they find the right 'fit'.
What helps me may not help you but I sincerely hope it does the same for you as this feeling is amazing. Good luck.

Hello river22,
As with all medications side effects are part and parcel of any treatment, i was on this for a while and i ended up with swollen legs and a rash, i then was on Humeira ,i was very ill on that and only had 2 shots. Now i am on Rhoactemera with Prednisanol and now my RA is under control, i don't get swellings any more, and the pain is very rare, but i still get a lot of stiffness and pain attacks which last around 5-10 minutes, also my walking and standing is limited. We are all made the same but we are also all differant and some medication is good for some , but not for others, so i can not say how you will react to Actemra , go with the flow and see how you get on, any problems just stop it and go back to your Rheumatologist. Andy.

Actemra rang a bell and sure enough I had read an article on it the day before. I can't put the address on here but if you google "Failure to warn: Hundreds died while taking an arthritis drug, but nobody alerted patients" without the quotes you will see the article. I don't know if I want to take it or not. I sent the link to my rheumy and she did not respond. I know every drug has its risks but I don't know if I want to take this one

You do not have to take anything if you do not want to, it is all to do with money as usual, ask her to put you on Rhoactemera....that is what i am on , and with Prednisanol it seems to be under control, but i still have issues, but nothing like i used to.

Yes but one is an improvment on the other, & actemera is for mild to sever RA, the actemerea had no or little effect on me, where as what i am on now seems to be keeping the RA under control.....that is all i know.

Being a little concerned about your google search I went to my Doctor and asked about any problems with Actemra and heart disease as I am undergoing tests at the moment. He looked it up on an independent website and it says like most other meds that it can cause heart problems (the list is so long for other problems too) but they can find no correlation between Actemra and deaths from heart disease as RA itself can cause these problems. It's a bit of a dog eat dog in the pharmaceutical world and to check with your rheumatologist if you have any doubts. I just know I feel much better taking it, and my heart tests came back as perfect.
