Feel let down by the Doctors

Hi. I've seen my GP and the Pain management team last week, but none of them will give me pain relief. The Pain management team just referred me to the OT when I've got all I need from them. I told the Dr that, but she took no notice. She's also writing to my GP again. While all this time wasting is going on, I'm in absolute chronic agony. I'm so cross about it I feel like writing to the Patients Assocciation to complain. Please help me

Hi kate 73131 That is disgusting that you are getting on pain relief from either the pain clinic or your gp. Your gp has a duty of care to you and should be providing you with pain relief. My advice is is it possible to see another gp. if not go back to your gp if possible take some one with you for support and say your not moving until your given pain relief. If you still dont get any where with gp I would most definitly complain. As how your being treated is disgusting and not on. Take care sending you a big hug.

I totally feel your anger I went to see.pain clinic last week and felt like she didn't believe me that I'd got fibro until I told her I was dignoses by my reuhmatologisit and spoke mind in one than one way . The dr was so bloody rude she reed to.after I td her I've since been dignosed with fibromalga and her nasty reply was who is dignosing ppl with this . My rey in the end was if a patient with cancer came in and told you I've since been told 8ve got cancer you wouldn't reply to them and say who.is dignosing all these ppl with cancer so why do you dr feel that what we've got is mad up by our self's we didn't chosen to spend every waking day in pain . If we going to chose some illness to make up we wouldn't chosen one were we'd be in pain everyday would we . I get so mad at dr that treat us like it's all in our heads . I wish you all the best x warm hugs x

Hi sammy-jo its your gp that can refer you to a pain clinic in some areas they can refer you also for hydrotherapy acupuncture and cbt therapy. You need to speak to your gp to see what they can offer you. It depends on where you live in the country to what your area offers also see if their is a fibro support group you could join. Your gp can also get ot out to assess your husband for aids eg bath board rails etc. ask your gp about walking frame walking stick wheelchair if it is he doesnt have these item, and would benefit from having them take care

Hi tiggers and others; just catching up with some of the forum letters, so sorry am late.   What amazes me from what you ladies are saying is "what is this Dr doing working in a Pain Clinic, if she/he/they don't believe in the pain of Fibro....or of Fibro"......?   I would have thought to be eligible to work here, they would have to have a BROAD knowledge of all types of pain, and what works on individual pain/s.......as another lady would say...."hohum......."wink............Bron

So sorry for you. You need to speak to gp and tell them you want some treatment for pain NOW and you want a new pain clinic appointment as the dr was awful. I'm sure your gp could prescribe amytriptlyn at the very least, possibly need consultant to sign off on pregablin on gabapentin but GP I would think can do amytryptlyn.

Or if you have a private pain clinic near you then that might be worth a shot for speed of treatment.

Every consultant I've ever seen from facial pain clinic to neurologist have always tried to shove anticonvulsant type medications down my throat so I am surprised that they haven't given you anything.

I don't really blame the pain clinics for being wary of fibro diagnosis though as I think they have probably had a massive influx of people being sent to them with the fibro label, I don't think they mean to say they don't believe your in pain but perhaps they think it's something else which hasn't been properly diagnosed. Fibro is the same to pain as ibs is to stomach discomfort, everyone who comes in with unexplained pain now gets the fibro label and further investigations stop. It's easier and Cheaper for Drs to say fibro rather than keep investigating. The same with ibs, stomach pain could be anything but if you tell GP you have bowel/stomach issues they instantly say it's ibs rather than look for coeliac or other diseases.

Have you tried ibroprufen, paracetamol, cocodomal? They are all available over the counter and may reduce your pain to a more manageable level until you see GP. I read somewhere that solpadol soluble was quite effective for some people.

Hi Kate , have you tried sulphadeine or syndol , they might help you, just a suggestion, as for Doctors when I tried to tell my Registrar about my pain in my knee and that he was not latching on to the fact it wasnt the pain I can take tablets , but I cant do anything about the instability in my knee , he told me I was being "confrontational", so much for the caring profession!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are a law unto themselves

    Take care

im not sure why doctors are becoming so difficult.its hard enough being in so much constant pain without having to fight  to get the care you should. ive come out of my GPs and hospital appointments so many times feeling like i havnt been listented to that they are dissmisive and quite frankly dont care. try a differant GP at your surgery if they dont help phone the surgerys practice manager and tell them if all that fails phone N.H.S England they will speak to the practice manager on your behalf. good luck

Morning Kate;  I have replied to your question before, but must appologize as I was in the same frame of mind that day, and did not do a very good job of helping you.    I should have asked "have you been referred/seen by a Rhuematologist?"; as these are the specialists who are good at diagnosing/treating Fibro...(just in case we do need a professional diagnosis for others).  These professionals willl also know what treatments are best for you, and will then report back to your GP with a plan to follow.  As someone else has said, there are many medications/treatments that make our lives a little better..........such as the Amitriptyline, Gabapentin, and for some Pregabalin/Lyrica and Cymbalta work?....another treatment that I rely on is Physiotherapy/massages, these help to relax the tensed muscles  (and I have also found that A small dose of valium does this too........those stiff necks that cause our headaches can be very hard to live with daily.....but I do know not many doctors will not prescribe this......it's just that I have been seeing my same GP for nearly 30+ years and he knew me before my Fribro)......so after all that, get A GP to refer you to a Rhuemy even at your own expense to get there sooner..............................good luck..............Bron
