feel like im going backwards!

hello,
so i have been on celepram for about 1 month now. i was on 10mg for 1 week then 20mg for two weeks and was upped to 30mg. since starting the 30mg i did feel good slightly tired but all the physical symptoms i had were gone. but you know when you have anxiety and you can feel your heart pounding? thats what i was getting even though i felt calm. i rang the doctor after putting up with it for 4-5days and he said to go back to my normal dose of 20mg.
its now day 2 of the 20mG and im getting the gushing anxiety and the pounding feeling. i feel like ive gone backwards instead of forwards. i hope it doesnt last long though.
has anyone else felt like this when theyve dropped their dose?

Oh poor you.
Unfortunately all this messing about with doses really does mess our neuro chemistry up and the brain just goes - don't like this.
I trained in a drug rehab and hence learnt about neuro chemistry they are using citalopram to suppress my hormones - think I told you.
However going up in doses and coming down should be done very slowly - at my worst before they shut my ovaries down I was on 30 mg but now back down to 20 mg - but it should be done at 5 mg doses for over a 3 month period before dropping any further. Sometimes even 2.5 mg for chemically sensitive people. Same going up it should be done in small doses until our brains settle back down.
There is a thread on coming off citalopram - which covers about reductions and things - talks all about this too.
But only being on it for a month - as it can take quite a long time to get in and then messing with doses wouldn't recommend.
I would stay at 20 mg and you might have to ride it out whilst all the symptoms come back down again. But your GP can give you other things to help with this - as I know when I was getting it in to my system they had to for me as it usually makes things worse before better.
I hope this helps and that you are soon back to your normal self.
Big hugs and loves Mel Xx

thanks for replying! yes it has messed me around a little bit but i suppose i feel how i did when i started so being on it for this short time i have realised how much it had actually helped me. the doctor never gave me anything for the side effects but my side effects were basically what i was having to deal with anyway so i guess ive just soldiered through. and i guess i just feel like ive taken two steps back but ill get there.
thanks for replying and giving me an understanding of how my body is reacting chemically. it should settle down tomorrows another day!
hope your going well!

well its now day 5 of going back down to 20mg and i feel the worst i have ever been! my anxiety is at an all time high. ive got that choking sensation back as well as my arms starting to hurt and the pounding feeling again( although i think its normal coz im so anxious) i have just been sitting here and the gush of anxiety just goes through my body.
will this ever get better? i just feel like im going backwards because i was starting to feel normal smiling happy again and now ive nearly hit rock bottom.

Oh I so feel for you, you don't know how I do, having been where you are now.
I read your post this morning and been putting a lot of thought in to it.
I would stake my life on it - due to experience, training and research, that what you are feeling isn't anxiety but adrenaline.
I don't want to bore you with neuro chemistry - that I learnt whilst training in a drug rehab and I can't for the life of me, although we have talked before remember your life history.
So how old are you, hormones to date ie. if on the pill or coil, implant etc. Where abouts in your cycle. As our hormones control over 400 of our bodily functions and the building blocks of our body - anxiety and hormones come hand in hand when out of balance. As they impact on our neuro chemistry so much!
The other thing I learnt was all about our lymbic system part of the brain - being our subconscious etc. etc. and adrenaline at the moment it would be flagging as not liking.
Okay I had an adrenaline problem as our hormones bring that in with them and there is a lot more to this as your brain craves to feel safe and at the moment your chemicals and every thing else is up the shoot.
The best advice I can give to you as they did this for me and I know others on here have talked about it is to take propanol along side this whilst it is getting in and calming your system down. It really will get rid of your heart pounding and stop this adrenaline. Then once it has settled down you can come of the propanol as you want need it - I wasn't on it that long and you will know when the time is right.
I so hope this helps you and I am always here if you need further advice and you will pull through this, honestly, if you read my description of me you will see I had a massive breakdown due to my hormones. I couldn't even stand being in a room on my own - but now I am back to normal thanks to citalopram and natural oestrogen.
Big hugs and lots of loves.

thanks for the reply! im 25 and have had the implant put in a week and a half ago. i go back to the doctors tomorrow so we'll see what he says. i hope he ups me back up to 30mg though just because i felt like ive crashed since going back to 20mg. my partner even thinks it might need to be upped again because ive been an emotional wreck and hates seeing me like this and not being able to help (which he does, more than he knows!). im so glad he supports me though!
i hope youve been going well with everything though! thanks for all the advice!

Any ways that a lone will take at least three months to settle down in your system.
Glad you got such a supportive partner - my husband has been brill and has been through so much coming to see the professor etc whilst they have been balancing my hormones back out - I think he knows more than most GP's on hormones - lol.
Any ways here's hoping it gets better quick for you, but would put a lot of thought about going back up to 30 mg and if you do increase do it slowly - otherwise you will be back to square one.
Lots of love and hugs Mel Xx
