feel like increasing pill on my own

i feel like increasing my prozac from 40 mg to 60 mg on my own . the only main stress is that all my doctors and carers will disagree and tell me to wait several weeks until i see the consultant who may put it up to 50 mg. i feel like doing it making my own decision but if i did i would be feeling guilty and as though im in the wrong but ideally i would like to increase it. all the doctors will say wait. i dont think im confident enough to do it what are peoples views and opinions on this?

If you do you will run out of the pills and have to wait till your next prescription is due, this will probably make you feel even worse. I know it's hard as I am in same situation but I dare not do it for fear of not having any pills at all. Take care, but keep telling the doctors and carers.

Hi Glenn. I have the same dilemma at the moment. Someone has given me a course of Fluoxetine 20mg for depression and I am wondering whether to take them or not. It's not like popping a couple of headache tablets and thinking nothing of it, but prozac I believe are quite strong. I would wait until you see your consultant before upping the dosage yourself. The same as the Fluoxetine will stay in my cupboard!! x

Hi glenn. It can be very tempting to do things such as increasing your medication but don't. You go to your GP for help and advise and basically it's because they are qualified and know better when you don't. You can't be sure that the doctors and carers will disagree but it seems as though the consultant will have the final say.  Try and hang in there and wait to see the consultant which is hopefully not too far away but remember you are put on a particular dosage for a reason and it's not down to you to mess with this.

No, you mustn't do this. As has already been mentioned, you will run out of meds before you are due to pick up a new prescription, so you will run out of meds and have nothing to get you through.

Also, you have been prescribed that strength for a reason. Seriously, wait until you see your Psychiatrist. It's the safest thing to do.
