Just had my iron infusion today. Feeling really weak and a lot of fatigue. I really thought that this was going to make me feel better, but feeling weaker than before I had it. Glad to hear I'm not the only one and I hope everyone is doing ok now.

it's going to get ugly before it gets pretty but if you need someone to talk to about it I'm here along with many other people on this forum! hang in there, it's a tough one but you've come to the right place for reassurance 😃

Hi Alisha!
I have 2 questions hoping you can help...
1- Did you get tingling sensations in your head or other parts of body?
2- I heard Venofer can drop potassuim levels. Any info on that. Reviews say that this is why we tend to get worst before we can better because potassuim drops and sometimes vitamin d levels can drop.
Hope you or anyone in this forum can help.
Thanks!!

Hey Marlene! sorry i didnt get an email for your reply 😦
i certainly did, 3 weeks later it still hasnt stopped! Feels like a nervous energy, another thing I've had is my left arm going so weak it starts shaking and i cant do anything to stop it but lay down and relax.
i cant tell you much about venofer, ive been trying to speak to gps and im getting shut out and blown off left right and center! Have you got an update for us about how you're feeling?

i had my first infusion in 2015 and i was fine, but i had another one on the 27/7/18 and it has been 4 days and i am still experiencing fevers/chills, severe body aches, joint pain, twitching, headaches, dizzyness /slowness, sore throat, heavy eyes, coughing /flu symptoms. I have called my doctor and waiting on a reply but i am so nervous as they said the symptoms should last long. I can hardly work, i spent all last night laying down and still feel so tired. i dont know what to do!!

I had my very first iron infusion 3 days ago with Ferinject and feel very dizzy today. My blood pressure is usually quite low anyway, but i feel its even lower today. I'm angry with my doctor for not explaining that there was any possibility of any side effects. The only thing he mentioned was a possible metallic taste, which came and went. I've found the leaflet that comes with Ferinject myself on line. I'm also baffled by his complete lack of interest in why i am anaemic in the first place, its not my diet and it's not heavy periods. I am so glad I found this forum, it has really helped. I hope you are all feeling better. Some of you have had some real horror stories. Anaemia really sucks and i'm fed up of people telling me that I look so well when I barely have the energy to leave the house! Take good care of yourselves everyone!

Hi Alison. I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. I felt awful for a whole month and a half. But it seems a big reason for that was my stomach. Not only was I in the midst of a lot of stress at work, plus going through interviews, but I had a bad reaction to my second infusion, and I think all the stress took a toll on my stomach. I had to take two 14-day rounds of Nexium to get my nausea, lightheadedness, and inability to eat under control. I also had to take ativan for a short period on time to get anxiety under control. I didn't have any of these issues prior to the infusions and the dr. keeps saying it's not the iron. 🤷 Anyhow, advocate for yourself, write down your symptoms and keep seeking answers. Get second or third opinions of you have to.
Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have gone the infusion route and would have kept taking my Floradex, which was working, but very slowly. I hope you feel better soon!!

I get Iron infusion few times year & I do suffer from all the terrible side effects. I am surprised to read doctors or nurses did not provide information on the side effects. To reduce the side effects my doctor now gives me half & 3 weeks later the other half, it does not stops to side effects but reduces the days, instead of a week of feeling sick I now feel sick for 3-4 days. For metallic taste have lemon candy & next time ask your doctor to give half first.
After the iron infusion if you had the procedure at the hospital the next day hospital will call to check up on the patient, if your GP gave the iron infusion than the next day doctor will call to check up on you

That's exactly how I felt, and it took over two months for me to feel better. I'm finally starting to feel like myself though. Hope you're feeling better too.

I had ALL of those symptoms exactly. Horrible stomach cramps, my eyes were messed up on top of those. It took me almost two months to feel better. Although I went to an acupuncturist who practices Classical Five Elements Acupuncture (JR Worsley style), and he instantly fixed my eye problems (Apparently the influsion had caused a block between four different meridians). Anyway, I hope your daughter feels better, and I'm so sorry about the side effects. I actually went to go report them, but in the US the FDA makes it really difficult to report them. I had to order a form online and then the form was almost 100 questions, some of them asking things like the serial number and batch number of the Feraheme I received (how am I supposed to get that information?) so I just gave up. But I think that's why a lot of the side effects that so many people are experiencing aren't listed. They're only listing what happened in the clinical trial.
