Feeling Better

Hi everyone,

I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant and starting a few weeks ago my anxiety spiked terribly. I'd been on citalopram for 7 years with only a few blips. Well I think the hormones really hit me hard and I was a wreck. I was put on Sertraline while weening off of citalopram. This is day 11 and after plenty of anxiety/panic I'm seeing a big change and feeling better. I'm not 100% yet but I'm getting there. I'm posting this because the last few weeks I've really benefited from reading succes stories about this medication and I hope I can help someone else with mine. I really appreciate this supportive and insightful community.

Thanks!

Sam

It feels as though sometimes with these ssris, we are all looking for some confirmation / reassurance that they actually do benefit us and work... does anyone else just find this just a tad confusing, maddening and unsettling ?

I think that the reality of this medications tend to be that things are difficult or perhaps worse before they get better. I don't know if this is necessarily due to the medication itself or the stress of waiting. I think that the majority of posts people make focus on these difficulties and frustrations when in reality they do work for many people it just often takes time. I was on Citalopram for 7 years. The beginning

Whoops posted too soon. The beginning was tough but I balanced out and the medication worked very well for all that time. But as will any mental illness the psychological stress may be overwhelming but I believe strongly that the benefits of the meds far out weigh the drawbacks when one finds an effective one.

I dont think people know their own minds, we believe what we are told about these meds...when we doubt it, we seek council from others on the same meds.

Usually these forums are full of bots working for the pharma companies making the drugs....they try to put a positive spin on ssris...when in my ecperience and all the real people i know who've tried them report back with no success ...just more sickness.

Ever get the feeling that there is no " magic " pill that makes us feel " 100% " ...or that some dark force is purposely causing ill health and upset ?

      Hi

My experience with ad,s is that the just make us numb and try to cover up our problems and then after they stop working or we stop having them it all comes back and that's is not what I want I want to solve the problem not cover it up I've been on sertraline for 5 months it's been a roller coaster so I've decided to go down to 25mg for a bit then come off I'm having cbt and I'm just starting to get to the bottom of the problem

Well I'm not a robot, just a regular person and SSRIs have worked for me. I am a naturally anxious person and I find that the medications reigns in my nerves and prevents irrationality and panic. I've also done so CBT which, along with the medication, is helpful. I don't think this is a matter of conspiracy or "dark forces" but chemical imbalance and the necessity of medicinal support as well as coping techniques. Obviously treatments evolve over time and I'm sure there is plenty of room for improvement I have faith in my doctor and his desire to assist me. I think negativity and hopelessness only hinders our progress. As with any ailment physical or mental outlook is key.

I think the problem is more that success stories just don't hit the blogs enough.  If you struggling like I am then you are looking for confermation that things will get better.  However if you feel better you are out doinfg things and keeping busy so your not posting the success you had.
