Feeling bleugh

Hi everyone. I've been diagnosed coeliac since 26 April last year and have been gf since then. I still feel

Shattered, my skin is dry and I get achey. Is this likely still the coeliac or should I be feeling better now! I'm 37 but feel about 90 and I'm starting to look it. Is this normal. Oh and finding it really hard to lose weight too. Thanks in advance for any replies ️xx

I had to comment as you have described exactly how I'm feeling just now. So bleugh!

It just seems unfair. My diet is healthier than anyone I know. I don't drink or smoke. I don't have any children. All I do is go to work. Yet I feel so unbelievably exhausted and spend all my weekends 'recovering' from the week. I totally feel I SHOULD be full of energy!

Exercise is my main hobby (weight lifting mostly) and I can't imagine doing that just now. I was trying to push myself at first but I've decided I need to give my body a chance to repair so have stopped that. I'm planning on some gentle activity like swimming once I have a bit more energy but it's feeling like that day will never come.

I'm really trying to be patient but it is difficult. Especially when there is no definitive answer or outcome.

I had been taking lots of supplements (minerals and vitamins) but they were the same ones I'd been taking for a while so I decided to stop them just in case they were part of the issue but I felt more tired without them so have just bought a load of good quality supplements that are guaranteed GF so here's hoping.

To make matters worse, I'm finding I can't handle alcohol! If I have one glass of wine, I just feel awful and the next day I am even more tired. So I can't even have that.

    I just feel everthing just now is 'I can't'- I can't eat that, I can't do that...very frustrating!

Sorry to just reply with a moan! :D

Hi  With regard to supplements, some vitamins need other vitamins to make them 'work' and some things need to be taken separately? Like calcium needs to be taken separately (eg. early in the day) from magnesium (take later). It might be of benefit to find out about that.  With regard to alcohol did you check the label for malt? Or you may be allergic to other things eg sulphites / preservatives. Some coeliacs cannot have corn, rice or buckwheat either! It all takes time to find out what works or doesnt work for you.

Hi  Wondering if you are not getting proper sleep? Coeliacs become deficient in vitamins and minerals but magnesium deficiency especially affects quality of sleep as well as lots of other things. Try taking calcium early in the day and magnesium later. Vitamin B might help also.

It could also depend how long you've had coeliac disease before you were diagnosed. I was diagnosed over 3 years ago and still feel like that on and off. I was originally diagnosed with IBS  over 30 years ago, and was extremely ill when my doctor started to investigate for Coeliacs.

Is it possible that there is still some wheat/gluten sneaking into your diet? You could keep a food diary. Also, ask the doctor at the hospital to check your vitamin and mineral levels.   I take quite a few, as even after changing your diet, you may find you don't absorb nutrients as well as you should.
