Feeling heartbeat when lying down, can’t sleep

This started about a month ago and has been affecting my sleep every other day.

I have starter feeling my heart beating hard in my chest when i lie down to sleep. I tried changing positions and i could still feel it. In some positions when my ear is on the pillow I can feel and hear my heart beat as well.

This has occurred every other night and it’s keeping me awake for hours. I only fall asleep when I get absolutely exhausted in the wee hours. I can feel my heart beating in my chest. It is not necessarily beating fast, but it feels like it’s beating harder than usual. Also the constant feeling of the heartbeat is preventing me from falling asleep.

I know it is natural to feel one’s heartbeat especially after exercise or changing positions in bed etc but those are usually transient and goes away in mins. This one just seems to not go away and it’s annoying me and starting to think it’s something more sinister.

Any thoughts?
