I am still feeling the effects after having an allergic reaction to acne medication and then I was prescribed prednisone which I FELT TERRIBLE after taking and I my dr told me to get off immediately around day 6 . SO I i got hit with 2 bad medicines. IT HAS BEEN 9 months . i feel a little better but still not myself . I have back aches and I have anxiety of which i never had before. I was an active college student before this . I have to admit I am scared. My vitamin D level was low I take supplements . My mom recently took me to a naturopath doctor who recommended eating clean as well as eliminating gluten from my diet. He added magnesium and whey protein for my smoothies. I hope this works every doctor i have gone to say that it cant be the prednisone still but i believe it is. if anyone has any more suggestions please let me know . My anxiety is getting worse im trying not to take anything but i might have to.

Sorry your are dealing with this. I believe it is the prednisone because I also took it and experience similar side effects.

I took Prednisone from Tuesday October 8, 2019 to Monday October 14, 2019. I was taking 20 mg per day. After my prescribed duration, I experienced withdrawal symptoms such as fatigue, irregular heartbeat feeling (pounding and rapid), trouble sleeping, dry mouth and eyes, indigestion feeling, gastritis (gnawling feeling), rage (rushing to cook food and eat), increased appetite, hyperness, mood swings, severe anxiety and depression.

It is currently December, I am still experiencing symptoms such as dry mouth, puffy eyes, indigestion feeling but have slow bowel movements, gastritis, rapid heartbeat, trouble sleeping, depression and anxiety. I recently started experiencing upper abdominal discomfort feeling in chest and back. Hopefully, this is just gas.

If I had a do over, I regret taking this medication. This drug disrupts my excitement of life in many ways. I pray that others and I feel better soon. I researched online that Predisone withdrawal can last from several weeks to 12 months. This period depends on how long you was taking the drug and the dosage. Prayer helps me.

it has been since August 2018 for me, I still don't feel much better. I had to take off this semester of college and I am now taking meds for anxiety. i still have stomach throat and back pains. I ound info about toxic reaction to minocycline which is the antibiotic and prednisone together and i am using some of the supplements that were suggested to get better. I will post to let everyone know if the supplements work.

Conner, What dosage were you taking at the time of the prednisone and did you wean off of it or stopped cold turkey?

I was on 10 mg started with 5 pills a day for three days than 4 Pills and so on however at three pills a day I was having such a bad reaction that my doctor made me go to 1 pill for only 2 days so i tapered abruptly but also I was taking the prednisone because I had an allergic reaction to monocycline which I took to treat my acne. I wish I never took either.

I doubt that being on steroids for 6 days has caused the problems you describe. Suggest you see a good internist to find out what's really going on with you. Good luck and feel better soon.

it absolutley can be. i was on them for only four and had a ton of side effects. then stopped them and had the withdrawals and i didnt even finish the full cycle. everyone reacts to meds differently and steroids wreak havoc on your body. sure theyre great for some stuff but if you have a bad reaction its terrible. ive seen two different doctors and one even jokes that with steroids being as strong as they are he could make a dead man walk with enough of them. they are awful and cause long lasting problems while your body adjusts back. no one here is crazy and she has similar symptoms to even people who have been on it longer. so have some courtesy and dont downplay how she or anyone else is feeling.

THANK YOU! Using steroids was the worst decision ever and I havent recovered yet from taking them almost two months ago. Side effects are very very real and this drug has hurt so many.

    • Posted

Are you talking to me? I was only expressing my experiences having been on steroids for over 2 years. I didn't say anyone was crazy, not sure how you got that out of my post. Have a great day!

In people with severe intolerance, the half-life of this drug is not "a few hours" like the doctors claim, it's more like 6 months. It gets stored in the body and causes side effects long after the last dose. Not enough research has been done.

    • Edited

If you've been taking it for two years with no problem then it means you don't have intolerance.

The mental side effects are pretty much gone. Now I just have some remaining physical side effects.

    • Posted

That's great that you are feeling mentally better. Hopefully you will be feeling physically fit soon too.

Do you ever have weird muscle jerks? I was feeling better for about two weeks and then the weird "high" out of body feeling, tingling feet, and muscle jerks started. I feel so defeated and don't understand! I just hope this ends at some point.

yes I have been off them 9 months now still have bad days but they get less . all this week was great I worked a full week . then today just the odd feeling. back

    • Posted

This has been the most awful thing to experience. I felt that I was getting for about two weeks and now I feel like I did months ago. I'm praying that I am healed eventually.

    • Posted

Yes I was also feeling improvement for a few weeks but then out of nowhere I had a big spike of side effects this afternoon. Each time it happens though it's a bit less intense.

    • Posted

same here .now when I get the side effect. they dont last as long and not nearly as bad

    • Posted

yes its truly horrible. every time I think it's all the way gone it comes back but slowly gets better. .like just moments ago walking to mail box. hit me hard then anxiety back witch makes my hands sweaty and feet . ughhhhhhh

    • Posted

I had a week of not wanting to just give up and now it's all back again. It's so emotionally exhausting

    • Posted

yes that's the way it is soon as u think it's gone. it will come back. today my anxiety is threw the roof. when I go a week feeling great then have a bad day it takes a few days to start feeling good again. caffeine is a big trigger for me .

    • Posted

how are u feeling? I'm back to bad side effects. every Tim I thinks it's gone and work alot I'm on day 3 now of laying down all day . ughhh

Another weird side effect. For the first few months I was extremely weak, like I couldn't even ride a bike without losing all strength and feeling sore. Then about 8 months later I started lifting weights again and to my surprise, I felt as strong or even stronger than a year earlier and my muscles didn't even get sore after working out. I felt like superman while working out with a ton of energy. Now that the side effects are getting very weak my strength is going down and I'm feeling more sore after working out.

This made no sense to me until I read a study that showed that daily prednisone in mice led to reduced muscle repair and strength, but when given weekly doses it increased their muscle repair and strength compared to placebo. When the drug is very strong in your body it makes you weak and sore, then when it gets to mid-range you actually get stronger than before. Over time once the drug gets very weak however you can expect to lose some strength and feel more soreness, still stronger than the first few months however.

not feeling very good. I still feel spacey/high/weird and my feet still tingle all the time. Praying for miracle at this point.

    • Posted

Do you have the side effects of thin skin and/or bloating at this point?

    • Posted

how do you guys deal with the random anxiety. I never had this before I took prednisone. so it's a crazy feeling. and freaks me out I do not take anything for it I try to read and such when it comes on .

    • Posted

I have not experienced that. my symptoms are:

-weird spacey/detached feeling, almost like I'm high on something

      -tingling in feet

      -rashes

-shortness of breath and increased heart rate

Praying for everyone that they can heal and we can all live in peace once again.

I had a big reaction last night and today I feel tightness in chest, adrenaline, pacing, swollen face, mood swings etc. It's less intense than previously but it seems like this happens once at the end of each month, almost like it's literally on a 30-day cycle.

Also can feel the veins in my arm constricting. It's even visible because before the injection I had large vein sticking out in the middle of my arm, but now it's completely hidden.

    • Posted

Your symptoms only happen once a month??

I was also just diagnosed with 2nd degree heart block, i'm wondering if the pred had anything to do with it. I hate this so much. I'm scared i'm never going to feel like my old self.

    • Posted

No I get side effects every day, but it seems like it suddenly becomes stronger at the end of each month and then over the next few weeks it settles down. Over time all the side effects get weaker though. It's definitely a huge difference now compared to the first few months though. I would recommend taking vitamins to make sure your body is getting what it needs while the drug is still active in your body.

I'm almost at 20 months but I had a cortisone injection and a much more serious reaction than anyone posting here. I almost died and I started losing bone mass. Cortisone is the same type of drug as prednisone. On another forum for cortisone reactions the mildest cases get better in two months, and the most severe cases take about 1.5 years. My case isn't the norm.

    • Posted

So basically worst case scenario for you is 18 months, and people have said that all the side effects disappear eventually, both mental and physical.

    • Posted

mine also seems to be bad one week out of the month. never thought about it tell u said that . its horrible. I wonder everyday if I'll ever be my old self again. I have not been to Walmart in months because one time the side effects hit while I was in there did not think I would make it to my truck to wait for my wife to get there .I felt so weak felt like I was miles from my truck worst feeling ever. and has me so scared of it happening again

    • Posted

Wow, thank you so much for sharing that with me. Talking with people like you has given me hope to continue fighting this. I'm sorry you're still battling this. I cannot believe doctors dont tell patients about the side effects

    • Posted

i'm mostly just scared that the weird spacey/foggy/high feeling wont go away

    • Posted

they all deny that it's from prednisone but I never had any of these problems before. all I had was a sinus infection. now months of hell . and tons of doctor Bill's. the main thing kept my head right was this form . every time I feel the side effects I just start reading the post it helps so much . I also get the wired feeling. had bad mood swings . that drug messes with brain and body . its horrible and doctors throw it out like candy I had one doctor that sad . that it messed with my hole body. and all the others just wanted to throw me on xanax or other meds . I just stopped taking everything. and been letting my body reset itself. takes time that's for sure I'm on my 8th month off of it .and noone around me understand what I was going through so made it even harder . my wife started reading this blog and then she understood. and I did not talk mu h about it because I was tired of people thinking I was crazy lol. but I wonder everyday if I'll ever be my self again

I have a new side effect for the past few days. Now instead of feeling that intense adrenaline and energy when the drug goes active I feel this weird spaced out feeling and kind of numb like I'm disconnected from my body.

    • Posted

I have been getting that same feeling. For me its like i'm high or drunk and my clarity in thought is gone.

    • Posted

You also get sudden shortness of breath, fast heart rate, and tightness in face?

    • Posted

I was on xanax for about two months but stopped because I didnt want to be addicted. I still get it now. I quit drinking coffee. My heart rate is still high so I just try to keep myself calm if I get too anxious

    • Posted

Another new mental side effect, both good and bad. Before the injection I had a bit of depression triggered by a breakup one year earlier. After the injection I felt extreme euphoria, or mania, for no reason. Even though I was really sick my depression was completely gone. As the side effects got weaker and the months went by, the extreme euphoria went away but the depression didn't come back, I thought it was somehow cured.

Well over the past week I've felt that old depression coming back, and it feels exactly the same as it did before the injection. It's nothing severe, but it's just a sign of the side effects wearing off.

I get random anxiety really bad never had this before. and all this lock down stuff just makes it worse

    • Posted

my anxiety is like a roller coaster. and never had this before .so it freaks me out

    • Posted

When I get side effects it also affects my mood, I can start feeling very angry especially at the doctors who treated me like I was crazy.

    • Posted

anyone else get the random forgetting things or forget what the heck u was doing for a min . I get mood swings too and like out of nowhere .

    • Posted

In the first few months I had memory problems, but it's gone now. Has your side effects improved since two months ago?

    • Posted

longer better days with out . but still there and then every now and then I'll have a bad 24 hour period where its hell . and now being stuck over this lock down. makes hard to get out

    • Posted

today is starting off horrible! went to work couldn't walk 100 feet legs felt weak felt like I was going to pass out . I feel horrible! felt like I did at the one month mark. anyone else get the random really bad days

    • Posted

hope you all had a great Easter. how are you feeling the last few days have been total hell . I feel like I did at the 2 week mark . only thing I have done out my new normal was take a tylenol for a headache. and holy crap . I read that some meds can trigger side effects. I'm just lost at this point. 😔😔😔😔

    • Posted

I wouldn't take ANY drugs while you still have side effects, it affects drug metabolism. At this point I have side effects just for like 3 hours each day, otherwise feel mostly normal. The 1-year mark is where you should start seeing big improvement.

Hi Lauren, I am curious if your brain fog/high feeling ever went away? I am 6 weeks of pred and most symptoms are gone. What remains is serious trouble with sleeping and a feeling of being disconnected or lack of focus/high feeling. Not sure what I can do to eliminate this. Thank you
