Feeling horrible after been on the steroid prednisone

Hi denice,

This is a horrible drug! But hang in there. It has been at least 3 weeks since my last dose of prednisone which I took for 5 days 50mg a day. The doctor so easily prescribed it to me for what he believed to be a sinus infection. When I finished my dose, the following days were the worst, I have never in my whole life felt like that. I couldn't eat, I couldn't focus, I felt like an airhead. I had severe anxiety and slight depression. I had no idea that a drug could go this to you. I also had muscle weakness. I couldn't walk for long. I stayed in bed for 3 days! Thank God those symptoms have died down. But I am still dealing with anxiety and slight depression. Muscle twitches have gone down because I have started to drink more water. I am sure the preds made me dehydrated. Most recently I have been dealing with slight joint pain, and stiffness. But I have gotten better since the first 2 weeks of this nightmare. Nevertheless I think we must continue to pray and trust that God is a healer! We will get through this if we remain positive. Remember all, they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up on wings as eagles ,they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. GOD BLESS!

hi Denice , have you stopped taking them or did you reduce the dose daily ? the docs don,t tellus we are suppose to come off them gradually & i,ll be very surprised if your doc DOES,ENT say oh it can,t be the prednisilone

Hang on in there bud.. we all have the symptoms not trying to scare you but took me close to a month to start feeling normal but could've been my anxiety that contributed to it. Drink plenty of fluids and variety of fruits to re balance yourself out.. for my friend's wife it was too overbearing when she stopped taking prednisone her drs pretty much mocked at her thy nothings wrong so she went to er and they pretty much gave her a ivy with vitamins and she claims that helped immediately might be worth looking into. I'll say a prayer for you but most likely if u can stop prednisone as soon as possible and re establish your self that'll be best

I remember you staring that the pharmaceutical company were creating a bad batch of prednisone which also was under the label Roxanne. Well my bottle also says Roxanne. I am on my 5th week of withdrawal affects of prednisone and I don't know what to do. Please say a prayer for me. How did you finally get better?

HI Heather;. i got an injection of prednisone 80mg steroid 5 months ago and prednisone cream . just 1 shot and 2 weeks cream. and i also take other medications . and still recovering from prednisone withdrawl. i pray to God every day to take away this fog weakness anxiaty depression. now 5 months and its getting better with feelings . i feel stronger now but having awake depression. i am not like you so i am sure you will recover sooner. i pray for you. many patients recover a lot sooner i think. i pray for you.

Oh wow, 80 mg seems like a lot. I'm not sure what the taper would be for one day of that. I know you got the cream also but not sure if that would suffice for a taper of an oral dose. I do hope that this will all be over for the both of us john, but have faith! We may not be where we want but I can say that I and I hope you have come long ways. I'll say a prayer for you, just believe that it will get better, that's the beginning of getting well.

Heather'.  the cream was Triamcinolone acetonide. looked up side effects .why did they not tell me it would do this to me. i have problems all ready be for and they new it. how could they do this.

John, I have no idea why they prescribed that to you, probably the same reason why the er doctor prescribed me prednisone just for a sinus infection. What I do know is that anytime I receive something I dont know about, I will definitely read read read on it. I shouldn't have been given the 50 mg of prednisone for 5vdays for that. Keep in mind that there are a lot of young doctors these days that are quick to prescribe the "new meds" in a heartbeat. There is a need for doctors to understand and care about the patient needs and examine switch medicines are needed precisely. I do hope you get better soon.

Hey heather sorry for the delay response I hope your feeling better by now. I'm doing any better since march.. but I have here and there random spells but not as bad those foggy brain days of the first 2-3weeks after the predisone.. I was thinking the worst on those days. But I'll def say a prayer for you hope you are doing well.. I encourage to file a complaint with the FDA or any drug overdose hotline they can direct you.. then more we have on file the better chances they will recall it and these darn er drs from prescribing it on the fly. I do believe to some extent on life emergencies it may help. But there has to be other alternatives for our cases. God bless you and keep updating because people do read these blogs and can bring some peace to them

Sorry you are going through this.  How are you doing now? Two months ago I got a Kenalog injection 60m (equiv of 80 prednisone), and I am in hell.  I am looking for some hope.  Our dosage was high, so I am really curious what your recovery has been like.

THanks Heather '. i having probl- with pc. i have been taking vitamin d3 magneciuim and zinc .anf feel better emotionaly . i hope i am not taking to much vitamins for i feel funny to my stomac . but my depresion lifting for awile. hope you can read this . God be with us. and the doctors go broke for a wile and stop be greedy. they should never have had any talent in this .

Hi ollie12'. well you and i are diff- in mind and body and age. ya i took the injection 80mg kenolog 9 months ago with little prednisone cream for 4 days. felt like you '. IN HELL. i started taking vitamin d3 /magnecium and zinc. trying k2. b2. have not takin k2 b2or6 yet. been on d3 mag- zinc for about 3 weeks and a big change in my depreshion mood fatige brain fog and all that crazy hell is a lot better now. the zinc seems to be the best for brain fog and waking depressin and sleeping depreshion . i hope you can read this for i am a little fogy at the moment. ollie'. i do have good news for you. you may recover faster than i for you took less of the kenolog. 2 months in so far you are. i started feeling a little better after 3- 4 months. you could much faster though. i am finaly feeling full recovery . so you sure will .take vitamins and check people on utube who are doing much better on them after taking steroids. you will fully recover soon . you are in a battle right now and you will recover. Hi John,

Your response brings tears to my eyes.  I really needed to hear that.  I am so glad you have recovered. 

Fortunately I have been taking high potency vitamins already, so hopefully it will aid recovery.

I wish you and other didn’t have to go through this hell, but at least recovery is possible.

OLLIE'. i have not fully recovered but i am getting there'. at recovery you will start coming in and out of the withdrawl. it is like wow i feel i recovered and in a day or 2 it came back. i had a hard time going through that when you feel relief and it comes back you no what i mean i hope? i also am on pain recovery medication do to surjery from a car crash years ago and can not get off it. the med gets in the way from recovering from the pred and kenolog injection 9 months ago. so this pain addiction med is slowing my recovery. are you on any other medications ?

ollie i mean i am feeling a lot better . the coming in and out is going away much more.

its good to cry'. for it also brings recovery in many ways'. i cry'd alot be for.

John, I am on sleep med that I was hoping to start tapering off, but that is now not possible. Not for another year it seems. That is quite disappointing as the med makes me fat!

Did you have apnea episodes in withdrawal? It’s really messing my sleep up.  It’s disheartening to hear you still have symptoms so far out, but I guess you don’t have a choice but to wait it out .

ollie'. yes i have sleep apnea too. been paying out of pocket for provigil madofinal nufigil some insu- comp pay for it. my sleep is waky like yours . i am sure we both can understand thesleep problem pretty easy. one thing i really do not like recovering from steroids is still waking up with depression  that will only last about 1 hour but still a pain. it is hard for us to find all the feelings and problems with medications. in my past i would go through feelings of up and down moods do to all kinds behaviors in life that may affect our health , but very hard to pin point or solve life in it self and that is where God comes in. i sorta feel if i behaved different in life i may not have gone through sleep apnea or ended up with a rash and taking a steroid shot in the first place . i remember now'. having my tonsil's out about 13 years ago and the doctor saying to me that he cut a little to much in surgery when i woke up . then he said he is giving me a shot in my back to help the pain and heel it faster sooooo he did. i stayed at the hospital in wicked pain over night crying and callling my brother to take me home for the nurse was making to much noise . they would not let me go so i left the next day. i get home in pain spitting  up blood clots for about a week or 2 not sure. but any way i had this horrible feeling like dieing could not see good at all depressed as hell would not sleep and this went on for about a year. sooo- i think you no what this means ".. i found out later doctor riggie gave me a frickin steroid injection and now no why i was so f'd up for a year. so i also know now that i did fully recover from from kenolog 12 years ago. i just have to get the fact that it takes about 1 year to fully recover and it has been 9 months so i need to wait a little longer for full recovery and that is how it goes . i just with those ass holes would care a little better about there own kind.
