Feeling icky

Not sure if this is the right board , sorry ...

I recently had an abdominal ultrasound. The Dr first scanned over my right side, then left, then back, then lastly I had to stand whilst he scanned my sides again.

I am not sure what the procedure is for an abdominal ultrasound and perhaps this is normal. Whilst scanning my side when I was standing he had his hand on my bottom. I would have only had a patient gown and underwear if I had not thought to wear some Nike pro shorts. He kept cupping my bottom almost when I had to hold my breath. I'm not sure if this is normal I just feel icky about it now & wonder if anyone else who has had an abdominal ultrasound had this experience too & it's just the way it is done. I mean no harm to the doctor I'd just like to know if it's a normal thing 😔 Thanks in advance .

    Hi,

Further to my earlier message it seems we are all in agreement on the fact that this person's conduct was inappropriate and if you are training to be a nurse you will certainly be taught what is acceptable and what isn't. Please pluck up the courage to speak to someone, you have every right to question the care you are given because as professionals we have to be totally transparent and defensible in our actions. His first mistake was not to have a female chaperone in the room. His second mistake was to touch your bottom, which if he needed to do he should first make you aware/ask your permission and second invite a chaperone in toprotect both you and himself. I had a similar experience when I went to see a specialist (first time alone) as a teenager so I know what you are going through. Please don't doubt yourself or worry about the impact you coming forward may have on him; rather be concerned about what may happen to someone else in the future if you don't. If nothing else he needs to learn from this if in fact it was a simple error of judgement but for me it automatically rings a safeguarding alarm bell. Best of luck :-)
