Feeling miserable.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 3 years ago.  The biggest problem I have is my family doesnt understand.  If I complain, the say I am a complainer.  If I dont say anything, my kids want me to babysit.  Yesterday I was hurting so bad I wanted to cry!  I am tired and depressed all the time. My I have sleep apnea, pain all over, even in my jaw.  I grind my teeth, have a hard time sleeping, and I am miserable most of the time.  I am taking lyrica and a pain Medication, which doesnt help that much.  My husband complains because I do things that make me hurt and tired and he says he gets the worst part of me.  I am 59 and had to go on disability.  Does it get any better!

    Hi deb

I find at work and home I rarely complain anymore as all I get is you don't look sick. If I do speak with someone I try to explain what fibro is just by saying it's like I always have the flu (aches, pain, tired) at home and work I started using the spoon theory http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/wpress/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory/

I tell my kids that I only have so many spoons a day and that's it.  It is hard when you have a good day (if that is what you can call it) to not go over board on all the things you need/want done. Start using the spoon theory make a list and do what you can.  With fibro I have to use a spoon just to get ready in the am!!  I'm not sure wether they have any fibro groups or learning sessions where you live but if they do join and take your family to learn and understand a bit better. They won't really get it but will be more educated to help you out...

      Hi Maber

It's nice to talk to someone that knows how u feel.  When I have a good fay, I always overdue it! I used to have so much energy!  I worked 10 to 12 hours a day, went to the gym, and still had energy.  I m talking effexor for the depression.  My mind runs fast and my body cant keep up.  I also have degenerative facet joint disease in my spine, four discs in my neck deteriorated, and sciatica pain in my lower back.  I had a good paying job and now I m on disability.  I have worked hard all my life and was a single parent.  What keeps me from falling apart is my grandkids!  I have 10. I love them so much! :-)  I try to keep up with them.  I don't want to think I m old.  I still try to plat baseball and football with my 13 yr old grandson.  I have also had 2 shoulder replacements, the 1st one dd take.  My feet r thrashed, I have had 3 surgeries on them.  I try to keep God in my heart to get me through everything! :-)

Are you pushing yourself too far? If so, you should try to rest. Have a day or two sitting up in bed watching tv and let your husband spoil you and then come and sit with you. Sounds like you really need a break and just think about yourself. Be more honest with your children and say "no, sorry I can't do it, I am too tired and in too much pain!" When my pain gets too much I cant help but cry and I just tell my son to leave me alone, he is selfish, my daughter understands more and will bring me a coffee. Mine are still at home I am 47 next week. The only way it gets better is to take regular relaxation, time out just for you. I normally feel better after a day in bed just doing nothing at all then I can manage a slow walk with my partner. My jaw is bad too and its horrible, you should mention these things to your gp and do you take anti depressants? X

Hi Debbar..Reading that is like reading my mind, that is exactly how i feel. The only difference between us is age, I am just 58, My youngest daughter meithers me every weekend to have her three children, you are right 'outsiders' do not understand what we are going through.. I used to be on Pregablin 'Lyrica' I weaned myself off them, as I put on lots of weight, they made me feel drunk and dizzy etc. ow off them and have lost 12 lb. I take Oramorph and Paracetamol at the moment, just waiting for results off the Rheumatologist as the pain is very severe at the moment,he sugested I may have ME also. Great hey!

he also sugested I start taking Doseulipin 'not sure if spelt right' its an anti D, I said I do not want those, and he said they will help with sleeping as I were only having 1-2 hours now I sleep 5-6 hours. Does not make me feel any bettter thou, still exhausted when I get up. Keep well, and keep writing in on here. its a great site for all us Fibro Pals..Regards Annebiggrin

    Hi Deb

I really feel for you. It is extremely challenging to get people to fully understand how you feel and that has certainly been one of my biggest challenges. I focus on knolwedge is power and give them the choice to read up on this health challenge however if they choose not to (depending on my pain levels at the time ha ha) I either politely or frustratlingly stress to them if they wish to support and help me then they need to truly read and empathise with the information on FM I have given them. If they then choose not to as hard as it is, depending on how I feel at the time I don't spend time with them and only those that make me feel positive and proactive in my approach to improving my health care and pain levels.

It is also hard to not snap at those, like your husband as by the time you are able to spend time together you are in pain and exhausted. I have to make sure I am home by a certain time otherwise I am exhausted so I ask to meet family and friends earlier or stay over when possible.

Don't be too hard on yourself

There are many supplements to take for the Fibro nerve pain issues.,,I won't use the drugs advertised on our TV all the time...makes me sick, more side effects from the drugs than the Fibro.

    Magnesium is critical..

Remember this.....Fibro has been around forever...just the name has been changed in the last decade or so.

My grandma and aunts all talked about rheumatism and it's basically the Fibro stuff.....they didn't have the hard core drugs in their days.....they used remedies from herbs and bayer aspirin or excedrin or anacin....

    Anyone remember those days?

One rheumy I've seen and she is older called FM, fibroitis....

A young rheumy who is very alternative in healing does call it Fibromyalgia....

Advil helps me a lot and Pain RX herbal supp for pain..

DGL for stomach protection.....drugs can really mess up our stomachs.....DGL is a licorice product but it's deglycerrized to take out what can elevate blood pressure......

People with low BP, can benefit from licorice root for some energy and help for adrenals.....there are many adrenal adaptagens to help our tired adrenals...
