Feeling nervous about going outside

Posted , 3 users are following.

Just wondered if anyone could give me any advice really. I've had anxiety for ages and recently I've been getting nervous to go outside because I hate leaving my comfort zone. I'm jealous of people who can go to town and do things and I feel like

I'm being so boring! But I just feel spaced out and uncomftable in public. Does anyone else feel like this? I've got the doctors tomorrow so I'm going to talk to them about it. I'm not able to work or anything.. I'm only young and I want to enjoy my teenage years not be stuck at home due to anxiety. sad

    Hi Katie,

There's a fairly common anxiety disorder called agoraphobia, which means fear of going out, especially into crowded places like town centres. It sounds as if this is what you might be suffering from.

You've done the right thing in arranging to see your doctor. Just describe your symptoms exactly as you have here, and I'm sure you'll get the help you need.

This is very common. It comes down to comfort zones and familarity. You know your home. You feel safe if your home. You know how to get help if you need it at home. This was a huge problem for me for a while, and still is sometimes.

What helps me is starting small. Dedicate a few hours, or even an hour at first to leave your house. Increase this by maybe a half hour every few days. If you feel unsafe, bring your phone with you and consistently text your friends.

    This can really help.

All the best, and if you need anything, feel free to message me on here or send me a private message.

And you'll get her back! You've already taken the first steps by admitting to feeling like this.

Dont give up, you know you have a problem and that it's in your head. You can beat this.

      All the best.

Give it some time, this isn't something you can rush.

I know, just frustrating when my friends ask to see me and it's embarrassing and makes me feel guilty when I say no.. Ahhh anxiety is just annoying

I get it, I've been there. But rushing it can make it worse.

Set a time linit for yourself. Go out for an hour, then say you need to leave. Build that up to two hours, and keep going up. Dont be afraid to push yourself. As weird as it sounds, one of my big achievements when beating Anxiety was going to a movie. I went to see the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in theatres a few years ago. it was dark and the room was crowded and Iw as terrified. I felt and anxiety attack coming on, but I forced myself to get through it, and I eventually got comfortable. It's not easy and you need to go at your own pace, but this cant kill you, so why be scared? You're better than this.

Yes I just spend my days feeling lazy feeling guilty at the fact my boyfriend and family work and I don't do anything don't even feel like socialising with my friends, some nights I'm like tomorrow is a fresh start I'll go out and do things.. But never do! It's frustrating. I don't want to become depressed by not going out and doing things

Yeah I totally get it. Try to push yourself tomorrow. You can do it
