Feeling Of Food Stuck In Throat Concerns Omeprazole For 7 Days

All started two and a half weeks ago when in the evenings I felt as though I had a lump in my throat but it wasn’t particularly on my mind and thought it could be because I had been up in the loft (with a full face mask on for protection)and maybe some dust exposure. About three days later when I was eating some food in the evening I felt like I had a bit of a bread stick I was eating stuck at the back of my throat. No matter what I did, I couldn’t clear it and went to bed with the feeling of it still being stuck. The next day in he morning all was fine and got on with the day however it happened again after eating. It feels as if the food is going down fine but after eating it’s as if some food is stuck in my throat. A week into all this, the lump in throat feeling was worse and really felt like someone was pushing hard on throat. This feeling of someone pushing on throat didn’t last all day but generally got worse throughout the day and felt better in mornings. I decided to book in for a doctors appointment and they couldn’t find anything upon inspection of my throat, glands and breathing and advised as it was early days to see how I get on.

Over the next four days after doctor appointment the lump in throat feeling was still there and even though I had an appetite and seemed to be eating food ok I was still feeling the sensation of food being stuck after meals. I went back to the doctors after this and was prescribed omeprazole 20mg gastro resistant one a day for 28 days. This is because the doctor thinks it may be silent reflux as I don’t ever get the acid feeling or food coming up from stomach after eating. I am a week into the prescribed medication and I’m concerned as I’m still getting the feeling of food stuck in throat after eating. I find I have good and bad days with this as 2 days ago I was fine and thought it was getting better however over the last 24 hours since eating last night it has got worse again. When I say worse I mean in the sense that the food(very small piece) just constantly feels stuck.

I’m not sure if I’m jumping the gun here and need to give the omeprazole more time to ‘do it’s thing’ but the only symptom I have is food stuck in throat feeling and I’m not really getting any other symptoms to suggest that this is reflux. I’m just concerned that it’s not anything to do with reflux and something else. The only symptom that has gone over the last two and half weeks is the lump in throat feeling and I’m also thinking if this is a massive co incidence that all this has occurred after being up in the loft. As I mentioned earlier, I had a face mask on and I’m not sure if breathing in and out through that all day (condensation built up in mask when breathing) has done something and it was also on very tight around my neck..

One other symptom I notice When I first wake up in the morning is a slightly itchy throat feeling as if a hair is stuck in there but not as bad.

I’m male early thirties. Look forward to replies and suggestions and thanks for reading.

Sounds like Silent reflux you need to wait and let the Medication work your throat and Gullet are probably inflamed so when you  it's affecting it try to say a healthy diet cut out all spices good and high fat content foods done drink fizzy drinks or coffee drink water and decaf Tea is what  I drink Aldo let your meals cook down before Saturn g them also let hog drinks cool down and no alcohol hope you feel better

I have cut out alcohol completely and also trying to watch what I eat. Seems to be a slight turning point as yesterday I didn’t have too much of an issue slightly worse today but have been drinking tea. The feeling of food stuck in throat doesn’t seem to be lasting at long maybe an hour or so after eating. Noticed I am burping a lot as well!

These can be reflux, but they can also be unusual symptoms for anxiety neurosis. My mother often had a "ball" in her throat. They gave  her tablets for reflux - it turned out to be a neurosis and the symptoms are somatic. Every now and then this feeling comes back, but the calming tablets help. Maybe go to another specialist, or maybe will be better if u make a ultrasound on neck?

It can be GERD or EoE ( esophagitis eosinophilic ) ; first of all you have to do 3 biopsies on you esophagus for the eosinophile count (more than 15=EoE ) ; in the meanwhile you have to take esomeprazole 40mg for 2 month in the morning 30 minutes before eating ( esomeprazole is better than omeprazole ) - I have your problem from 1 year and seems to be GERD not EoE ( hypersensitive esophagus maybe ) - After the 40 mg attack I’m using 20mg .... probably forever ! I feel better but not perfect ...but now I can live and eating - good luck !
