Oh I'm sorry!  Have you got any good dvds? It's terrible that low feeling.  Ask a friend to come around.  Ring someone up...not very good advice.  I do so hope you feel a bit better soon.  Other hippies might have some better ideas.  Sometimes a jolly good cry can help.  Big hippy cuddle x

I too had some depression ,think its just a mix of everything, the fear, anticipation then the surgery itself .The anastheatic gives you a wee  lift but then everything thats happened kicks in ..i'm sure we're not alone in this ....Im 7 weeks post op and feel more like myself ..Advise you to rest when you need to,get out walking when you can ,see your friends ,things you enjoy ,,,,keep posting to let us know how you are doing ..gx

Oh Kerry we all go through this around about 4-5 weeks... get a good weepy to watch and cry it does clear the feeling.   Also this time of year makes it worse, because we cannot do as much as we would like to.

I found watching films that are known to make you weep ie,, Ghost, Sleepless in Seatle was the ideal thing.

Crying is good for you ....   hope you feel better soon x

I did Kerry, I was very tearful and in pain and wished I'd never had it done. 12 weeks on I'm a happy bunny, still occasionally get a twinge here and there if I've over done it but I really can't complain. I'm still waiting for physio which is very late in my opinion , however once I have that there will be no stopping me.

Stay positive and just take each day as it comes and you'll be back on yr feet in no time.

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year x

Depression is very normal to be experiencing after surgery. For some of us it's worse than others. I had it pretty bad myself. I had my first surgery in July 3 weeks later I'm having a revision because I dislocated the new hip. 6 weeks of non weight bearing. I cried every day and it was a hard cry. I didn't want to go on anymore because for me this was to difficult. I felt helpless and alone. I spent the day alone as my family had to work. I put on a brace face for them but once I was alone it would break down. I'm now a little over 4 months out from that second surgery. I'm feeling better now. Through prayer, prayers from family and friends and talking to my deacon I've gotten through these dark times. It will pass. It's not easy on some days, wishing you were feeling better, getting discouraged and frustrated and the feeling of helplessness..... having family and friends over is good also getting out!! I spent over 6 weeks not being able to go anywhere and I believe that really took a toll. So if you are able, go outside get fresh air, if your able to get in and out of vehicle and someone can drive you go!!! I was wheelchair bound and had no way to get in vehicle as dr had me on strict hip precautions. Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery a very Merry Christmas 🎁🎄 and a prosperous New Year filled with healing, love and God's blessings!! It will get better!! Come back here anytime to talk or vent. We are here to see you through this!! Love and peace! 🤠🤓. LD

I drives a lot of us into depression.   I have never ever experienced that before, and it was quite a shock to me that I felt that way.

It seems to pass when you start getting active.

It is a massive operation, and the recovery is long and slow, which is not how the medical profession "sell it" to us.

Hi Kerry, do you have friends or family that could pop round, that used to cheer me up. Also getting out when you can. I think this time of year is so depressing anyway, even without major surgery. Dark in the mornings, dark in the evenings, gloomy days. I was lucky, a summer hippy. I wish you well with your recovery, and hope you can enjoy Christmas, xx

hi Kerry, i see that you posted this a while back. How are you feeling? i had my surgery 4 weeks ago, and it feels like an emotional roller coaster.

I had my total hip replacement last June 2020 and I felt helpless for months. Actually I'm going to have to get mine redone next month and it starts all over with the depression and feeling like it's hopeless.
