Feeling really down and lousy!

Hello folks,

For the past 2 months I've been reducing my low dose HRT.  The first month I reduced by two/three tablets a week and the second month I reduced to one tablet every other day.  Since reducing I've noticed my low mood returning and my mood swings have been horrendous.  Teary, angry, upset, bad tempered etc.   I was on antidepressants before I went on HRT 3 years ago but because I have fibroids my doctor wants me to come of the HRT.  My doctor has suggested I try SSRI's  (a class of antidepressant) but I'm reluctant to go back on them.  My low mood must be connected to my hormones as since weaning off the HRT I (and my hubby) can definitely notice a change in my mood.  It's like having permanent PMT sad

Can anybody suggest an alternative to these SSRI's?  Has anyone tried the SSRI's and had some benefit?  I could really do with some advice please.....or maybe the nearest gas oven!!  sad

Thanks,

Elaine.

I take Seroxat (paroxetine), an SSRI, and it does help, another one called Citalopram is also used to good effect.

Yes that's the drug my doctor wants to try me on! Did you have any side effects? I was on Citalopram before I went on HRT but my mood really improved on HRT so I came off it.  Depression is obviously related to hormones!

      Thanks Tazchurch.

They are pretty sure it was triggered by the op and not got rid of fully until now when I saw a specialist who tested for yeast as well, that came back clear. Seeing them again in new year and is possible will want me to carry on with gel anyway

    Hi Elaine,

I used Sertaline (generic for Zoloft) and it worked fine in the past. I was on a low dose 50 mg. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again if needed. Like you, I have fibroids, and HRTs are not an option. wink

      Hi Sue,

Im currently taking Starflower capsules from H&B.  They dont help with my moods though but have helped with period cramps.

Im beginning to wish id never started on HRT! I now have fibroids and  im finding it hard coming off it. Not sure what herbal remedies there are for low mood?

Hi Elaine presumed  you were going through the menapause when you mentioned HRT, i took agnus castus for the heavy and period cramps which also help balance the hormones out.

I dont get many cramps. I think i need something for my low mood right now.  So many herbal products to choose from. Dont know where  to start?
