Feeling really scared

Five weeks ago for the fist time in my 58 years I started to have rectal bleeding. I went to my doctor and he examined me and said that I have a small internal hemorrhoid. He gave me 5 suppositories and sent me for blood work which tested normal. He was also supposed to set me up with a referral for a colonoscopy screening. After using the suppositories 3 times I started to have mucous mixed in with blood and really noticed that I was becoming constipated. I feel like I have to go but sometimes there's not much but it feels like I am not done. I now feel what I'm sure is an external hemorrhoid too and I am having some stomach discomfort also. There are times that I feel lethargic and run a low-grade fever. I still seem to have a good appetite most of the time. I saw the specialist yesterday and I am being scheduled for the colonoscopy the first week in September. This morning I had some white colored stool so now I am really getting scared. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar issues with hemorrhoids and if so was there something else going on? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading.

When I first experienced bright red blood after a bowel movement I too was terrified. Hemorrhoids are fairly common among people. The good thing is the doctor found the cause of the bleeding. I had to change my diet and eat foods with more fiber so that bowel movements come out easily. Straining on the toilet will make the hemorroid worse. I also had to no longer eat spicy foods and limit fried foods. The doctor told me to use some lubricant on the external hemorroid and slowly push it back in. I'm not sure how much pain you're in but you may want to try this. They also scheduled me for a colonoscopy and everything came out fine. Please try to not be scared it will only stress you out.

Thanks for your reply. I wouldn't be so worried if it was just the bleeding from hemorrhoids. its the other symptoms that concern me. On the recommendation of the doc I took a gentle laxative yesterday. I was up half the night with a terrible stomach ache. I had diarrhea but still felt like I was blocked. This makes me scared of what the heavy duty laxatives that you have to take for the colonoscopy will do. Did you experience anything similar?

I'm afraid I never experienced the "blocked" feeling you're describing. The medicine they gave me to clean out my system for the colonoscopty did not cause any stomach aches. Just alot of visits to the bathroom. If you have problems while taking the stuff they should give you a number of a doctor on call who you can speak to about your concerns.

My worry was about my hemmohroid bleeding from going to the bathroom so much. The doctor said it wouldn't happen. I didn't really believe him, but he was right. The colonoscopy procedure is the easiest since you'll be asleep. The cleanout procedure is the worst part of it all. I hope you have someone to be with you for support.
