Dear Rebekah, uti,s can be very difficult to clear and often even following antibiotics you can still feel not well. I had a very bad one July time last year and also had a bad reaction to the antibiotics, I was ill for around six weeks and the infection left my bloods not right. All well know I am pleased to say.

I would advise going back to docs and not to ignore symptoms, hope you get sorted.

Hi Rebekah. So sorry to hear of your woes. I have posted on here my bad experience with UTI. Do drink plenty of water.Empty your bladder as soon as you feel the need. Plenty of water would be at least 2 litres along with your other fluids. Ask for your urine to be sent to the lab to be cultured. Ask what type of bacteria is causing this. E Coli is THE most common in women. If you are not happy with how your GP is treating you INSIST you be referred to a Consultant Urologist. Have you ever had blood in the urine? Fever? I had to literally SHOUT at my GP to be referred Rebekah! Am currently undergoing tests etc and on a low dose of antibiotics for 3mths. The only antibiotics that "help" me somewhat are Augmentin. There could be underlying problems due to menopause. Good luck and keep posting your news,

Forgot to add Rebekah. You MUST insist that you are NOT satisfied. You really have to speak out as I did. I feel so so strongly about this as I went through so much upset and aggro and UTIs before I was referred so stick to your guns! Also urine infection does NOT always show when it's dip sticked. Good Luck.

Hi Rebekah, I was like you, they said no urine infection present at my second urine test following first (and half of a second lot) lot of anti-biotics, but still felt not well. Ended up that the anti-biotics had messed about with my bloods and was anemic. (The anti-biotics beginning with a 'C' were the first lot, then another begiining with 'T' (these made me so sick I could not eat)).

Had to have them tested over a few weeks and all went back to normal.

I hope it does with you. I realy looked after myself healthy eating wise (once was not feeling sick). I agree with the other comment sent re drinking lots water to flush out also, I also took cranberry juice.

    hope you feel better soon.

    Hi Ladies,

A good rule is to keep a written account of your symptoms, and which antibiotics you have been prescribed. More importantly, the correct name of those antibiotics which do not "agree" with you. As I'm on a low dose of Augmentin for 3mths until further investigations are complete, I was curious to know what my Consultant's thoughst were on Probiotics. (opposite of antibiotics)! He said would be a good idea to start taking them as I've now been on and off antibiotics since September. They supposedly boost the good flora in the gut. There's plenty of indepth info online this is just a part of info I found  :

"Scientists are still sorting out exactly how probiotics work. They may:Boost your immune system by enhancing the production of antibodies to certain vaccines.

    Produce substances that prevent infection.

Prevent harmful bacteria from attaching to the gut lining and growing there.

Send signals to your cells to strengthen the mucus in your intestine and help it act as a barrier against infection.

Inhibit or destroy toxins released by certain “bad” bacteria that can make you sick.

Produce B vitamins necessary for metabolizing the food you eat, warding off anemia caused by deficiencies in B6 and B12, and maintaining healthy skin and a healthy nervous system". As antibiotics attack your immune system I ALWAYS take a supplement of Vitamin C when I have to take them. Cranberry juice? Well, I have my reservations there! Although, we're told to drink it and to avoid spicy foods, acidic foods, alcohol, chocolate (the list goes on and on) oh yes CAFFEINE! as these are bladder irritants, my Consultant told me to carry on eating these foods as E Coli bacteria (which most of us have with UTI) is NOT caused by these foodstuffs! I do buy cranberry pills however. Take 4 every morning. Good Luck Ladies, and KEEP SMILING AND DRINKING YA WATER!!!!
