I have been dealing with chronic anxiety for a year now. I've been through alot of stress in the past 3 year. 6 months ago I had a surge of anxiety attacks that would come and go for weeks. After I felt like i was in a panic attack for 2 weeks straight i went to the dr. i was so Against medication but I couldn’t live like this. I finally went to the doctor and they prescribed lexapro. The medication didnt start working until two months after starting But The feeling of anxiety in my body was gone after two weeks. im only on a very low dose of 5mg just to get the edge off. it wasnt easy starting the medication but im glad i got past the first few weeks because i couldnt live like that. i have 3 kids that need me. Reading up about anxiety and thoughts and feelings that it can Cause helped a lot. Not negative forums but actually how common anxiety is and how it can affect your body. I felt like I was losing my mind. I also would see a therapist every week. My therapist helped me a lot with how to cope with anxiety. I started to meditate. I started journaling. I started telling myself what I’m grateful for every day. I started to see things in a more positive way. I feel like if I stop doing these things my anxiety comes back. A lot of anxiety has to do with the things that you tell yourself. It’s important to know that anxiety is just that anxiety. When you get flooded with that feeling of anxiety you need to tell yourself it’s just anxiety I’m safe I’m healthy I got this. You basically need to ride your anxiety like a wave. It will go away you’re not gonna live your life like this forever. I was in the same position as you. I felt like I had no control over It and I felt like I was going to feel like this for the rest of my life. I had a lot of support from my therapist and doctor and family. I am in a lot better place and I know that anxiety is just that anxiety. You need to tell yourself every single time you feel that way that you’re safe. Your body is in a fight or flight mode so you telling yourself that you’re safe you’re healthy is relaxing your body because whatever negative thoughts you’re putting in your mind is making your body feel that way. Do things that distract your mind. Go for a walk, journaling, exercise, cooking. You need to think positive things. No matter how hard it is you need to keep telling yourself even if it’s all day keep telling yourself the same things over and over I am safe I am healthy I’m positive I got this. the 3-3-3 rule helped me in the beginning. When your heart is racing and you csnt relax. Name 3 things you see, name 3 things you hear, touch 3 parts of your body. It helps center your mind and ground you into the present moment. Eventually you will be able to cope with it.But you also need to find something you like to relax. Meditation helped alot! i bought a Muse headband and i am not one to sit and meditate but it helped me so much!! It took practice but i dont miss a day! you are not alone and you will get through it. you will be back to where you want and even better!
