Feels like my throat is closing up with something stuck in it, shortness of breath very noticeable!!

I’m a 19 year old male who’s currently on summer brake from uni, it however has been an awful year for me. I’ve suffered from anxiety for roughly 2 years more predominately health and social anxiety, I think I have roughly 32 visits to a and e the past 5 months. I was recently diagnosed with glandular fever ‘2 and a half months ago’ which lasted all of 2 weeks. Then a month later and I had to take 4 weeks off work as I felt so tired and unwell. Before this I was suffering from really bad headaches and head pressure which was one of many issues I’ve been faced. I’ve had a ct scan on my head, lots and lots of blood work taken over the past few months, tons of ekg’s ext. now for the past week and a half I slowly noticed a stiffness in my neck, which is now accompanied by what feels like a tightness in my throat along with a feeling of something stuck in it and almost an issue with breathing. It’s like when breathing in and out that there’s a tightness or restriction somewhere. Now through the day it doesn’t seem to be as noticeable and at times I don’t notice it at all but it is still apparent to me a lot,  it gets a lot worse at night which indicates to my rational side that it could be anxiety, but then again I can’t tell if the anxiety is caused by the symptoms or the symptoms are caused by anxiety. To be quite frank I’m actually fed up with feeling this way, a part of me just wishes one day I won’t wake up so I don’t have to be in constant worry. I’m always being called melodramatic and now get laughed at for symptoms. It’s a cruel injustice, my glands to feel sore and back of my neck, the gp prescribed antibiotics to see if it helps. It hasn’t. anxiety has killed my perception of what feels real and what isn’t and I generally just need some advice as I’ve follwed the community for quite some time but nothing quite tailored to answers I was after. I don’t expect anyone to take the time to reply FYI, just thought this might be a good place to start

    Hey Thomas,

You’ve had a lot of tests. Something would have shown up. It’s Anxiety. I went through what you are experiencing. I did have that throat lump which made me crazy. I didn’t want to believe it was anxiety. because I felt like crap. I wasn’t sleeping I had that severe neck pain. I found a neurologist who’s helped me. I’m on celexa now I’m my 19th week. It has done me wonders. I’m getting back to my old self. I did and stills meditation from Utube Rebekah Borucki. Look her up and do her breathing excercises. It’s very important that you master them. They will help you with anxiety. Your 19 get outside and walk put headphones on with your favorite music. Do 20-30 min of walking 3-4 times a week to start.

Keep me posted of how you do.

PS please share how you feel with your family. Ok!

Sometimes I feel we are on our electronics to much. I’m very guilty of it.

I run an IT for a company. And when I come home on on my iPad or iPhone connected. It’s crszy. I’ve cut down at home. Obviously I can’t at work.

Thanks for the prompt reply will I’m glad to hear someone dealing with similar things, I’ve got an appointment coming up with a neurologist soon so hopefully there as good  and I will take a look at that mediation as I’ve heard good things about that, the humid weather isn’t helping with sleep I must admit, I assume the medication your on is to help with anxiety? I guess with a job in i.t you don’t really have an option not to be on the computer all day aha, it is very easy to use electronics as a distraction I must admit, but your right there are other means of relaxation. Thanks for replying will

Hey sue, I must say it’s a relief to hear that other people experiance similar things, it’s so hard to believe that the physical symptoms you get are just in your mind especially since a lot of the symptoms are in no way stereotypical to what your told to believe, did the medication work well for you or? I only ask because I’ve heard it’s not good long term but not some so much research on the matter. Thank you for being so understanding, this website has somewhat been a revelation to the weird world of anxiety, I hope your well!
