HI,
Mid september2018 i went to my doctor regarding the feeling of something been stuck in my throat , suprasternal notch area.
I had a endocopy done and results showed I have a hiatus hernia along with inflammed stomach... my gp out me on 40mg of esomeorozole (nexium)which i have been taking since then..
The feeling subsided for a few months but has been coming back on and off. 3 months ago it came back and I have that same feeling nearly everyday. its worst in the morning when i wake up, i am still taking my medication but its doing nothing. They only relief i get is when I Eat , it seems to dissapear for about 20 mins but then its back again.
The sensation is very weird it can be worse at times and kind of feels like that sensation you get when your about to cry, that lump in throat feeling , it doesnt affect my swallowing at all just very uncomfortable at this point and im not sure what to do ... Im also a singer and it seems after singing it cam be worse ... Any one have any insight on what this could be as if it was acid wouldnt they tablets be helping as im on them a year?
thanks in advance

A hiatal or sliding hernia is basically when the diaphragm becomes detached from the esophagus. The diaphragm then slides up and down the esophagus and no longer provides support for the Lower esophageal sphincter. That creates a situation where the stomach acid goes up into the sensitive esophagus and can cause inflammation. When you took the acid blocking drug, it stopped your stomach from making acid, temporarily and the inflammation went down. Now your body has built up resistance to the drug and you are once again making acid, so you are back to square one.
When you eat, your stomach may then force the diaphragm back up into place and temporarily provide support for the LES.
Some people may heal over time and the diaphragm reattaches. But many need surgery to repair the torn tissues.
You may be able to look up videos on how to repair a sling hernia without surgery.
In the meantime you can switch to another PPi or increase the dose, but eventually you will have to deal with the acid revenge that occurs when stopping PPi drugs. When the time comes I recommend slowly reducing the daily dose over a period of 8 weeks. I am not a doctor but have done a lot of research on the subject.

Iv upped my dose to 80mg for 3 days and it makes no difference to me. I also take gaviscon everyday.
I have no other symtoms , no burning feeling ect just a lump in throat.
Been to doctor several times and next step is ENT doctor to look down a different channel.
I hope it goes away as its very unconfortable at this stage.
I will look up Dr BERG.
thanks
