    Hi Margaret,

I get an agonising pain on the top of my foot and I can`t move it. Also get terrible cramp when I get to the checkout at Tesco. Don`t know whether it`s the hard floors or the fact I`m wearing shoes instead of the usual slippers. Good luck with the rheumy. Regards, Shebob

The thigh pain is exactly what I experienced when diagnosed with PMR but oddly enough the pain in the top of my foot that I took to the Docs turned out to be underactive thyroid. Probably not the same for you but I was just so surprised when he took one look at my feet and sent me off for thyroid tests and it proved to be so. No problem at all now I take the thyroxine.

    Hi Margaret,

I've only just noticed your address - I was clearing out our house in Pity Me last week!!! If only I'd known, I would have called by!

One of the worst bits of the PMR was the foot pain, especially when I stood up after being sitting for more than a few minutes. It eased a bit after starting to walk but was always there and got worse when standing too. It made doing anything/everything painful. It was along the outside edge, if you know what Imean, and felt as if someone was sqeezing it very very hard. It took a while after starting on steroids to go away and comes back if I try to go lower than the dose I was on about 4 weeks ago, which was 13.5mg every second day. I've just had a bit of a flare and went up to 17.5mg every other day for a week or so but am on the way back down again at 16.

I also had pain deep in the hip joint which was worse when I put weight on the leg. That went away almost immediately with the steroids and has not come back at all. I hated not being able to move freely, but it was the pain in my joints that really got me down - and that doesn't seem to figure on the doctors' radar for PMR. It all improved dramatically within a few days after starting to take the steroids at 15mg a day.

cheers from a very wet northern Italy,
