mutley2, I was not a big walker till PMR, since then I have started walking on a daily basis, walked up to 20, 000 steps in a day without feet problems. I try to walk every day that I am not working on project. Trying to stay positive with a smile 🙂

I'm a 64 yr old female. I have had a lot of issues with my feet. I had arthritis surgery in both big toes before PMR. I ended up having plantar fachitis surgery on both feet then in 2012 and 2015. I was diagnosed with PMR in 2013.
In Apr of 2016 I started having all over pain in both feet. I remember it moving around in different places. The top, sides, heels etc. I visited my podiatrist, he gave me a natural type steroid injection, nothing helped. Ex rays showed nothing. I limped all the time. In July I went to my Rhumy and I asked him if I could up my prednisone to 20mg. I was at 5mg. In 3 weeks my pain was gone. I had suffered for almost 5 mos. I dropped gradually for the next few months.
This year my back gave me pain. Again, it moved around. Two weeks went. Y, no sleep, I was miserable. It was worse at night. I upped my prednisone to 15mg and it was gone in 3 days. I'm learning to read this PMR.
I'm heading into year 5 with PMR.
I'd suggest upping your prednisone and see what happens. Talk to your Rhumy.

I've already responded, but I do have a suggestion. If you continue to have foot problems I suggest you get an insole with an arch. Plantar Fashitis can cause heel pain especially in the morning when you wake up.
I worked for a running shoe store for 8 years and saw these issues daily. Also make sure your shoes are not worn out.
Currex (high level) they come in three levels and Powerstep make good insoles. Expect to pay $40-$50 a pair. Currex has a softer feel, try there first. Both have heel cups in case your plantar fashitis is developing into heel spurs. FYI. Don't go barefoot if PF is the issue.
Hoping upping the prednisone works. Try that first. PF can be a real pain!

Have you checked your sugar? Maybe you have diabetes?
Good Luck

I had painful feet before diagnosis and was sent to orthopaedics. I had an insert made for my shoe which helped. Following diagnosis for PMR and taking steroids it all disappeared. When I reduced it came back and it was like walking on pebbles. It has resolved and I am on 2.5mgs. It did eventually go away without resorting to an increase in steroids but I wasn't walking 7-8 miles a day on hilly terrain. I'm not sure whether a small increase of your Pred would help but I'm sure Eileen will be along soon to advise. I hope you find a resolution soon as it sounds awful when it's a major part of your work.

I had sore feet at the start of PMR - the soles felt as if I had walked miles in slightly too big shoes so they were tender and the middle of my foot felt as if it was in too tight shoes that had then been laced even tighter. A lot of people say they had something similar as well as feeling as if they were walking on a mixture of sharp pebbles and broken glass. It is probably tendonitis/synovitis from the PMR.
Like Silver I had shoe insoles made by orthotics - which were totally useless! That feeling faded for me after a few months on 15mg pred - but it can return a bit if I am flaring due to the dose being a bit too low. Maybe the 7mg isn't QUITE holding the inflammation?
