Fell, did I damage my total shoulder replacment

Posted , 4 users are following.

I fell the other day and landed on my elbow. At the time I felt enough pain in enough spots I didn't think twice about my shoulder. Starting a few hours later my shoulder became painful to move. As more days go by it isn't getting any better and pretty sure it is worse. Certain, but not all movement is limited and very painful. Should I wait it out? How can I know if I did actual damage to the total shoulder replacement or just have a sore shoulder. Its a new insurance year so I don't want to be foolish about getting unneeded and costly X-rays

If the pain continues, you are going to have to get a xray or mri. I would do it to make sure you didn't reinjure. My surgeon said that only a fall or something like it would damage the surgery. How long ago was your surgery?

The surgery was just over two years ago. I was hoping to find some specific type of discomfort that could tell me if it was just pain from the fall or if a specific style of pain indicated hardware damage. Since the hardware doesn't have nerves, I assume it would not necessarily hurt all the time or the same way as if I hurt some muscle tissue. Certain movements have no pain while other ones are very bad. I slipped on ice while shoveling and fell forward and took the brunt of the fall on the point of my elbow, as well as knee and thumb on the other hand. the thumb hurt so bad it made it so that I didn't really notice anything else until a couple hours later. While the thumb is starting to ease up the shoulder seems to be just as bad or at times worse.

I'm sorry to hear of your fall. I think if the pain continues, you should definitely get it checked to make sure you didn't do anymore damage to your shoulder. You cal also call the Nurse on call; if you can. I usually call when I have certain systems, and I'm not sure what I should do. You can also call your doctor, and inform him to what happened, then he might want you to come in. Don't keep waiting too long! I pray everything works out for you, and you get relief real soon! I will also keep you in my prayers.
