Femoral hernia repair tips?

Hi, I have been having a dull sharp pain in my lower abdomen for 2 years which has finally been diagnosed as a bilateral femoral hernia. I have surgery booked for the 4/2/22 and I am so scared. I was wondering if anyone has any tips?

Also I'm worried how long recovery will take as I live at my university campus and will be going home for this to recover however I am unsure how long I will need off 😦
