Femur pain after standing in place (one year after thr)

I had my left hip replaced a little over a year ago and I have this problem when I've been standing in place for a minute my left upper leg is so stuff when I go to move I just can't stand it. It takes a few seconds to straighten it out, causes quite a bit of discomfort. Does anyone have this problem?

Well I have this 5 months in so sought out a brilliant local osteopath

Who said it's the muscles .. all hard and in a ' horrible ' state so he is working on 'freeing ' them as they are blinking rigid and that causes pain , also scar tissue . Seek out a muscle person and prepare to fork out some cash I am afraid but my bet is your muscles ...

Yes, I have had this just over a year post-thr.   Like Hazel my own private physio said my muscles were so tight.  I am about to take up pilates to try to counter it.

Yes mine said heat and massage will help

But the pain is from the muscles being so constricted nothing is flowing easily ! I had good fit strong legs before the op too . The massage yesterday feels like I just had a new hip again they are soooo tight and feel like concrete under the skin whereas the other leg feels normal . Right at the tip of the femur down the front of thigh to the knee . May look into Pilates too ... x

You sure it is not the stem and not the muscles? HD an X-Ray? Could also be start up pain

Thank you all for the responses, I appreciate them. I have suspected it's probably all muscle related but wanted to see what else it could be before I start hiking this spring I am 35 years old and I'm active. I do stretches and stregnthening exercises and I walk. I'm trying to build back my strength and lose a little weight but I still have this going on so I don't think it's a good idea to start a new exercise regimen until I get that looked at I guess

I do have an appt. But not til next month. I've also heard of this loosening of the stem too that scares me too, but I've only had this problem consistently since my surgery. I'm definitely asking for the HD x-ray to be sure. Aggravating whatever it is, not to mention embarrassing at times!

Hi Amber I too have the same problem with my left thigh. I had lthr a year ago end of January 2016 & rthr 4 months earlier. My pain only started about 2 weeks ago. My GP is sending me for X Ray to rule out loosening of the stem & see if there's any sign of sciatica. The muscles in my butt feel very tight so it's possibly muscular. It's worse after standing & bending to pick things off the floor or taking things out of washing machine/dryer but have no pain while walking or moving (which is good) I'm booked in for Pilates classes early March so I'm hoping that will help. Surely the new prosthesis wouldn't loosen after a year 😬 Hope this helps u. I won't know much more until after the X Ray but maybe I should see a physio too
