Fenton Procedure

Has anybody had this procedure carried out?  I have lichen sclerosis of, amongst other things, the genitalia and my gynaecologist has recommend this procedure to enlarge the opening.  Not sure how this works if the lichen sclerosis flares up.

Hi Kathryn I too have LS and LP and my gynaecologist also recommended this procedure as I have fused over my clitoris and the fusing is creeping forward. It sounded extreamly painful and I was concerned the LS would continue to fuse after the procedure, so refused. I have since had a vaginal pelvic floor repair (bladder and bowel both prolapsed) and the LS and LP has gone mad I am soooo sore and itchy and nothing is helping, walking , sitting , sleeping is unbearable. I would personally be wary of any surgical interference in the genital area in the future. Of course this is just me others may have been fine .

Thank you - this is most helpful to me and I had wondered whether interfering with the skin would cause more problems.  I have to let the surgeon know when I go for my check up in August so need to do some serious research.  Thanks again.

Before you do this...either start cleansing with 2 pinches of bicarbonate of soda in a spray bottle after every bathroom break or use witch hazel in a spray bottle.  Then moisturize with either coconut oil or 98% or higher aloe vera gel.  The aloe vera gel for me has stopped the itching and has stopped the fusing and reversed it.  It takes about a month to correct the fusing...but it certainly worked for me.  I don't think I would let anyone do any cutting on me before trying some alternatives. Good luck.

That's 2 pinches in 8 ounces of water.  You don't want it too strong or it will burn your skin and not be helpful at all.

Hi renee can I ask how long you have had the fusing. Mine fused quite a few years ago so would this treatment still help do you think and also is it neat witch hazel ?

The bottle I purchase says 86% witch hazel and 14% alcohol...but I think straight witch hazel would be even better as you would not have any sting which I have if I'm the least bit raw.  It calms down quickly though. I think it worth a try.  My fusing was somewhat recent...and I had thickening of the skin as well. I believe the aloe vera helped a lot as when I added that to my regimen the healing really began. You might want to give the Manuka honey a try as well...and if it doesn't work for you...well then you can put it on a English muffin and enjoy it that way. smile

Ladies, I bought the distilled witch hazel from Boots, I think it's 100%. Doesn't sting 😊

Thanks will get witch hazel and aloe to try first - it surely can't get any worse !!

Well I can't go to Boots as I'm in the US...but did find the 100% witch hazel on Amazon...so have ordered some.  Will be so much better than what I have been using. No sting!  Yeah!

Excellent!  I will certainly try this as I really don't want an op.  A friend of mine went into hospital for a "simple" op and woke up 3 days later with lifelong repercussions!  There is no such thing as a "simple" procedure.

Have you tried the witch hazel and aloe after each time you use the restroom it is taking care of so much for me even taking down the puffiness and I have heard of people using the dialator balloon hand you tried that

      Hi Athena,

I've never heard of the dialator balloon!  I am guessing you are in the USA?  I am in the UK.  My problem is that the vaginal opening has fused/shrunk and is extremely painful during sex (the skin tears) or smear test - in fact both are now impossible.  The inner lips have all but disappeared.  Also, I am struggling to control my bladder!  Is this all part of LS?  Aren't we the lucky ones rolleyes

Hi Kathryn,  We have vaginal dilators here in the uk too.  Speak to your GP, the idea is that you can gently stretch the vaginal entrance yourself with them.  You can slowly increase the amount you stretch making things more comfortable over time for yourself.  If you are too embarrassed to speak to your G P I think you can get them online.

Personally I'm not so keen on 'cutting'.  My experience is with a dilation procedure and that has worked very well.  That in combination with the baking soda coconut oil regiment.
