Ferritin

I'm somewhat confused. I have been told that I have healthy haemoglobin levels BUT my ferritin stores will not release my ferritin. I have all the symptoms of anaemia but don't have anaemia. I was speaking to my specialist nurse today and she said it's not really a RA area and I'd have to go back to GP. Round and round I go. I can't take iron supplements because of chronic constipation. Why on earth is my body not releasing my essential stores! Do I need to request further tests?

Thanks wink

My hemaglobe was down a few points and my iron was too but ferritin was at 2 because I went on a low carb diet and was not getting iron. So I take an iron pill. It's taken me 6 months to get my ferritin from 2 to 25 and it's still not normal but I was not really considered anemic. Yes the iron pill makes me constipated but I try to eat fiber and I go sometimes once a day but then sometimes every other day and yes it can hurt but I don't want to be anemic or my hemaglobe to go down. My hemaglobe is back to normal as well. Everything went down due to a diet I was on. Along with the iron pill I try to eat some stuff with iron in it like frosted shredded mini wheats. It has 90% of your daily value and it has good fiber in it.

I agree with Sway. Constipation can be treated with drinking more water and fiber food but to build up ferritin takes a lot of time. You are still lucky you haven't got major panic attack. Take care of yourself. I pray you get well soon.
