Ferritin Level - rise and fall

Maybe some one can shine some light on this for me. I have the C2272Y/H63D compound and have started my venesections. When the Doctor done my first blood test it was 800. As I work remotely for 3 weeks at a time I didnt have time to do my venesection. When I returned back home from my 3 week swing the doctor decided to test my levels again and they were at 700. I have started my venesections now. When I asked my Dr what my actual iron storage level was he told me 700. I have read that the only way to reduce iron store levels is by venesection but yet my level dropped 100 by itself so what my doctor told me doesnt make sense to me can anyone please let me know what I am missing here?

It happens - our bodies don't perform via the textbook. Sometime you may be worried about why your ferritin level suddenly jumped up a 100 or so.

Did you sweat a lot? - we lose iron by sweating, urinating. Actually I am kidding because while we do so, you would not lose that much. Our body has changes in metabolising all the time for various reasons.

Also did you have a cold or infection, inflammation etc when you had your first blood test. These issues cause a rise in ferritin, then drops of its own accord when you are well.

Hi guys, just a quick update. i came from my Dr today as i had developed a few more symptoms i still have palmar erythema and i now have spider Nevi on my back, hands, feet and arms. My Dr now suspects that my ferritin level of 780 may be due to Cirrhosis instead of iron overload. i am going for a scan with the hemotoligist sometime in January. i am not really surprised as i have been a heavy binge drinker for a lot of years. What does confuse me is all my liver results were normal. anyway thats where i am up to at the moment. merry christmas to everyone.

Liver results are misleading I have had to explain this to patients before that most times they will only show up when a lot of damage has been done.

Dr should be booking you in for scans it's strange that you have not had biopsy or scan.

Standard practice I use is gene test with full blood work up including checking hormones etc and then scans of heart/liver/kidneys also do STI testing.
