ferrous fumarate

Is the above the same as water tablets which I have been prescribed for lack of iron

    Hi Ben, ferrous is iron, fumarate is the form of iron. There are several different forms. Most doctors recommend fumarate. Water pills are to control water retention in the body. They don't contain any iron. You may have been prescribed both. Ferrous is to treat anemia which can be caused by either low hemoglobin levels or low ferritin levels.

    Get your doctor to explain why the ferrous was prescribed and ask for the levels.
