fFrst 2 weeks of Cipralex is making anxiety worse

Hi smile

My name is Tima and I'm 23 years old. I've have anxiety and mild depression for as long as I can remember. For about a year and a half, I've been seeing a counsellor. I also started taking medication. I tried a couple and then settled with Wellbutrin (bupropion) since November 2017. I talked to my doctor about taking an SSRI with it since I still felt a bit anxious and panic-y. So I started taking 5 mg of Cipralex every two days. It's been 2 weeks now and I feel my physical symptoms of anxiety are getting worse. I feel the knot in my chest, I'm agitated, I can't sleep, and I'm restless. I think maybe the Cipralex helped me in facing certain things I was avoiding, but I now feel physically worse and mentally foggy and confused.

Has this happened to any of you? How did you deal with it? And does it go away after a while?

Thanks for reading this! smile

I was on Lexapro which is basically the same thing. I was on 10mg for 3 months and just stopped taking it because I felt like it made me worse. I’m on BuSpar (Buspirone) and it’s a lot better.

    Hi Tima,

Just to let you now, you have to be patient with this medication, it will take 6-8 week to feel normal again, first month you will feel much worst till medication kicks in but don’t give up , you will feel better after, I now from my experience.

    Good luck.
