Fibro and glucosamine

Hi all

I have been taking glucosamine and chondroiton every day for the last 5 years they help reduce the stiffness and the pain..I once ran out of them and hadn't  taken them for a few days and the pain in my hip and back increased loads now I have the pain under control also I have read with meds in oral form it can take 4 weeks to get into your system and there can be side effects but with a gel or cream it gets into your system within 10 minutes it helps with the stiffness and pain and has little or no side effects I have used piroxim gel for 5 years prescribed by my gp along with paracetamol I don't feel so tired during the day and the pain is manageable

I just came across this article

Many people choose to take natural or herbal supplements in order to deal with pain, illness, and other physical maladies and people suffering from fibromyalgia syndrome are no different. Glucosamine and chondroitin are quickly becoming very popular amongst fibromyalgia and arthritis sufferers. Used to reduce pain symptoms

gentle hugs

So glad to hear gluco/chond works for you Shirl.  i tried them for about six months and found no difference at all, so didnt bother continuing to buy them.  Pain gels work for my OA joint pain but dont do anything for the fibro muscle aches and obviously have no effect on other symptoms, like fatigue, memory problems, stomach upsets etc.  i'm loathe to take anything stronger as a pain med than paracetamol etc., i really dont want to take tramadol or other opiates, the side effects are horrid and they are addictive but paracetamol on its own just doesnt have enough affect, just takes  the edge off for a short time then its agony again.  i'm now taking meditation classes as Mindfulness techniques are said to be good for pain control, here's hoping.

Loxie I take paracetamol 3 times every day..we have in Australia Osteo Oanadol..it's an over the counter Slow Release Oaracetamol ...600g every tablet...I have OA too and the Orthopaedic Surgeon I see, recommended strongly for me to take 6 every day..the only relief on offer for OA. as I can't take any anti-inflammatories, he said to take them all the time...I do and I can really feel the difference..at first I thought I can't take 6 tablets everyday like that..mm...but he reassured me to start.,that was years ago now...twas good to know-no build up, no side effects...:-) xxx

Good to hear it's helping you and your husband Christine...my partner gets lock jaw and back pain from an operation where they fused his discs together and as long as he doesn't get stressed he swears by glucosamine :-)
