Fibro and Knee Pain

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have been diagnosed with fibro and living with it for the last 4 yrs. However in the last 6 months or so I have had VERY severe knee pain but only in my right knee. It will tighten up like it is in a vise grip and swell so big that I cannot even bend it. It hurts all the time to some degree but the pain is different then my fibro pain. Anyone else out there have this??

    Hi Pamela,

it's probably different, I had a total knee replacement about three years ago but have had fm for over twenty years. My left knee haf cartiledge removed many years ago and had arthritis plus wear and tair. See your gp and ask for referral to orthopaedics with a knee specialist.

    all the best

Did UR orthaepedic dr take X-rays?

Sounds painfull.. My knee had the same issue u describe.. I'm Not a doc so trying to share my knee experience. The swelling alone was a trigger for some type of injury or inflammation. I went to the doc and X-ray showed a small indentation in the cushion between the bones that rotate. The meniscus...also a small tear where it connects to the tendon / bone...& arthritis is in the joint.

The doc removed the synovial fluid which caused the swelling from the result of the knee issue. Removal was done using a needle.. Didn't even feel it the needle was so fine, but removing the fluid really stopped some pain right away. Rest anti inflam meds and ice on and off for a couple of wekd really helped. I keep a eye on it to be mindful of my movement as to no injure it . I am a arthritic joint machine. My autoimmune system likes to chip away at all my joints or add little cysts to fight off invaders which is my own body. I have 5 different types of arthritis...RA , PSA,it runs in the family and some is just the result from liven wild when I was younger...

PLZ see another doc ASAP To remove the swelling to protect The knee from further injury from lack of blood supply to the knee from swelling.

take care...healing prayers sent UR way!

    Hi Pamela,

I have had Fibro for over 20years, so I'm quite use to a myriad of symptoms. I have had a knee problem for the past six months, severe swelling, unable to bend, to the point if you need to get out of bed when you're half asleep and accidently bend your knee, you screem out in pain!. My specialist took X-rays and fluid from my knee...the verdict was...mmm..all looks OK!! Well...no, it can't be. I was given another load of tablets..which I tend not to take. Three months ago I went on a new diet to beat imflammation, I have lost 5kilo's and my knees are so much better, I'm feeling good, I can bend them to almost 45degrees and are back to being able to walk up hills..plus they don't look so ugly!! All a win, win, so far.

    Good luck,

    Cheers!
