Fibro but doctor doesnt want to 'Label Me'!!

Hi all,

I have been suffering for years with pain in the knees and hips, within recent years the pain has become worse and wide spread throughout my body. With the pain I have constant fatigue, weak feeling muscles, sleep issues, tingling in my hands and feet, brain fog, irritability, anxiety, cannot do activities I once could, I see floaters in my vision and hair loss. I have been to the doctors for years and had so many blood tests that have all been negative and no inflammation in my blood.

I was referred to a rheumatologist when I was in my teens due to recurrent fluid on my left knee, I have then been toing and froing between them and physio since then and I am now 30. They seems to always concentrate on my knee and not take notice of my other symptoms I have been experiencing over the last few year.

Today I went back to my rheumatologist and his attitude was very abrupt and was very confusing, he examined me and said I have the symptoms of fibro but 'doesnt want to label me' and said I just need decent sleep. I do not know what to do now, he gave me loads of information regarding fibro, but then said all I need is sleep.

Am I just tired, do I have fibro, more confused now than ever!! Can anyone help me, did you have the same problems?

    Dear....

My partner has FM in addition to other issues and she needs good sleep to cope.

I suggest that since this is something that should be under your control that you see what you can do to deal with this as a first step. If you need help with this your doctor may be able to help you.

    Good luck, Richard

Hi are you from the UK? If you are I would suggest you join fibromyalgia support UK on facebook . It helped me understand alot. I was seen by a rhemy and he had no idea. I first started with restless legs where when going to sleep my leg would do whatever the hell it wanted. This spread to any part of my body . Then I developed bone pain in my left hip which is like deep pains right in the bone that come and go all day everyday. Then this travelled to right hip same pains. Burning back pain . Stomach pains. Stings all around my rib cage. Sternum ache . Swollen neck . Three years later no diagnosis and I have the same pains everyday . Km thirty also . My gp says I have fibro but I'm worried irs something more serious x

Any specialist who tells you they "think you might have xxxxx" but then doesn't follow it up with either more exploration or a confirmed diagnosis is not doing their job.

Your GP might get away with saying "you need more sleep" (on your first appointment) but your GP has already decided that something more complex is at play , otherwise he wouldn't have referred you.

We don't pay consultants their very high salaries to come up with abrupt useless nonsense like the way yours has treated you, but unfortunately, many consultants (in particular rheumatologists and neurologists in my experience) tend to be cut from the same arrogant cloth.

You need to demand to see another specialist and ask , not for a second opinion but for a proper first opinion.
