Does anyone find when they sit in a postion which they aren't supported properly get pain throughout body and stiffness. If I sit In a chair where my back isn't supported or its to hard I get pain and loss of function ? I also get this when using a part of body as well as pain. Is this typical of fibro?

I get pain when i sit in a chair for too long. I manage to do a packing job where i sit in a office chair and do repeated movements for 6.5 hours. Ive tried a pillow behind my back. My muscles get so tight some times expecially in my back and chest that it so hard.

It seems the more i do the more my body seizes up. Have to work though. Ive been put on lyrica which is helping tbh.

I try to move around and change position as much as possible. Dont now if that helps but worth a try.

Im ok on sofa but a hard chair u sit too straight and it puts pressure on your back

Yeah I can sit on a sofa and not be in any pain but put me on a plastic chair or even sitting on a train or something similar within 20 minutes I'm in agony! Can anyone explain how this occurs ? I really don't understand fibro very much and how by sitting in the wrong postion can cause all the pain?

    Hi Anni

When I sit on a chair at times I get pains in my legs and buttocks.. When I  get out of the chair I get pain and stiffness.. I also get back pain..

I don't know what you mean by loss of fuction other than being stiff and hard to move due to pain.. There is also numbness at times..

I  get the same pains in my buttocks back neck hands etc. When I say loss of function is that they are so stiff and painful I literally loose function and can't use them as they are weak and painful. I us to work in an office but can't now as after 20 mins of using my hands or sitting at a computer chair I sieze up and could cry with the pain !! This is a cruel disease

Yes I totally understand your frustration as your life is put on hold due to level of pain and stiffness.. My life has totally changed and I have to pace myself..Have you seen a GP and been assessed?

You asked about sitting.. It varies from day to day week to week.. I have no pain in my buttocks sitting at the minute but in my back and shoulders.. next week could be different and back in my buttocks..

Yes been assessed first told arthritis was treated for that for 18 months then told no it's fibro. That's interesting that it comes and goes mine is constant so I reframe from sitting anyway other than a sofa and pretty much doing anything active housebound really as even walking sets it off! I went to a friends yesterday and she has like a vintage sofa so no support etc I ended up in so much pain and now I feel fluy achy stiff dizzy. My life is just on hold too it's all fustrating and the most annoying thing is it can't really be explained why we get this pain and I find doctors just unsympathetic.

When i say comes and goes there is always pain and stiffness but the  severity of it changes.. I can get days its not too bad but that is the odd day or even a few days..

The pain changes in that it moves around the body and more sore in places than others at times..

The fatigue can worse on some days more than others where I have to keep lying down..

It also depends on what I have been able to do for a day and it can make me sore and tired.. or it just is a bad day..

I have had this two years and only been diagnosed with Fibro.. Doctor has given me no pain relief when requested or any other help outside of telling me I need to see a psychotherapist in the hope of getting better.. In other words it is all in my head lol..

Like yourself my life is on hold and this has had a massive impact on the life I did have..

Ah I feel for you. Have you tried physio or pain clinic? And how have you got in with the psychotherapist? What does it entail? I have been refered by my consultant to All three but my GP was reluctant to and said why I don't try just one ( trying to save money as per norm) I said no thanks il try them all. Don't get on with pain killers find the side affects too much as a single mother with a young son I need to Atleast function. I have tried physio for when I was diagnoised with arthritis and told in too much pain and discharged me! So what luck this will be this time will see. So frustrated that there is no real medicine out there to control this condition the thought of being like this the rest of my life scares me!!!

Doctors are awful one said its just a group of symptoms not a condition and frustrated how people look at you and think oh nothing wrong with them and it's such a hidden illness. Some of my family think I'm just being lazy not working etc even though I have worked since 16 and feel like tarred off as oh single mum on benefits. I want to work I want to be normal I want to socialise with my friends like I us to I want to take my son out on nice days out. But I can't and have no life because of this dreadful condition. I am having further tests as I can not accept this condition and do feel perhaps something else is going in in relation to possibly having fibro as well.

I haven't got appointment for  psychotherapist as yet..Apparenlty it is CBT which I don't know how the heck that is to help.. I have also not been given pain relief or pain management.. So have made another doctors appointment as this is wearing me down and I need more support..

I am finding it hard to come to terms with this as well and waiting on more thyroid tests coming back..

I know it scares me as well considering it is not recognised as a disabilty either and I haven't yet applied for PIP because of the stress of it..

What makes it harder is people's reaction to it as yousaid and the doctors.. This adds to the stress.. I am usually more positive and deal with it but last couple of days have been rough so feeling sorry for myself lol..

They need to make up their mind what it is apparently it's to do with muscles but why see a pyschotheraapist then? I'm waiting for all my referrals so just left to sit and wait! Not like I havnt waited for four years.

I know how you feel no one understands unless they are going through it themselves I can't speak to my family properly as there like well everyone has problems and just get on with it. PIP where do I start.. What a horendusly stressful process which unfortunately my time is up and in the process of reapplying. I had to take it to tribunal last time and won after a year from the date I claimed. They not interested in helping you just interested in making sure your will not be eligible for the benefit. Makes me sick.

I have ups and down some days I think can't deal with this anymore then think it could be worse and things will work out in the end. I have extreme anxiety now because of this all the stress lost my job over a year ago being misdiagnosed and just the stress of making ends meet and being in pain each day. There's no real support out there I just feel like when I go to the doctors I'm just a number and an Inconvinece.

When were you diagnoised? Do they think your problems could be something other than fibro? Also do you get swellings anywhere ?

I am a single parent although my daughter is grown up now.. But I can understand how stressful it is for you losing your job etc etc..

Yes I get days like that I can't deal with it anymore hence the reason I am off form at the minute..I cannot get on with even little things due to fatigue.  Or the pain wares you down or is uncomfortable.Thinking about doing something is even tiring..

I came to this forum due to no support and long term illness with no real answers..

One wouldn't doctor diagnosed me and one did and gave no support at all except to tell me its psychological and stay positive lol..

I have an under active thyroid and attend a specialist for that.  That casues fibro..

As for swelling I am not sure as I gained a lot of weight over last lot of months and I do get very bloated..At times it feels my whole body has swelled but not sure due to bloating..

Yes this is a fybromyaglia symptom , the longer you stay in the same position the more you stiffin up . It's as if the muscles knot up to don't get the correct messages. From the brain . I find Pilates on a dilly basis helps . I built it up slowly with a little walking each day and it makes a big difference . Good luck
