Fibroid Optoins

I am new here so apologies if the question has already been asked...  I am booked for an open myomectomy in a week and a half, had a laparoscopy for endometriosis about two weeks ago when they discovered the fibroids.

The gyn. recommended open instead of lap because I have 4 or more about 4 - 6cm at difficult locations.  I read about fibroids being removed laparoscopically and it is less painful and a quicker recovery period, although surgery time is significantly longer with increased risks. (She also said she could do it lap. but prefers not to as it will be a 3 or more hour surgery)

I would appreciate your thoughts on this.... I'm a bit scared

I'm quite confused too, as I have a 15 cm fibroid & a specialist who is advising laparoscopic, with da vinci.

So I'm thinking pro's - less pain, quicker recovery, less adhesion, smaller wounds to heal therefore less chance of infection.

Thinking con's - longer operation, (so the risks increased for .......) assuming having to be under anaesthetic for longer. There is a possibility of a conversion, so twice the scarring, but my surgeon said he rarely converts.

Thinking open they can see better what they are doing & don't have to cut to fibroid into pieces to get it out, just remove it as a whole.

I really don't know either & would appreciate comments.

I'm unsure which surgery is safer? or safer for things like dvt, pe.

Hi, your dr suggested u right.as mine abdominal myomectomy done 28th nov 2017 . I went to 2 gync both told me for laproscopy surgery for multiple fibroide at diff places largest one was 6.7 cm . I was happy that it would be good pain and recovery tym will be less ,but at operation theater dr. Switch to abdominal myomectomy bcoz my fibroid was embedded to uterus they cant able to do with laproscopy . Few days before i read that abdomunal myomectomy is good option for those who want to be mother in future as in other option there maybe risk that utres can stretch and it can affect fertility .
