Fibroid questions

Hi,
I have just had an ultrasound and been told i have a fibroid. I am currently waiting for my next GP appointment.
I have researched fibroids and while some of my symptoms are there I am experiencing a massive difference in my periods. Since my other symptoms started my periods have become very light (I used to go through 2 packs of towels now it's barely 1/2 a pack), darker in colour (not to be disgusting, but brown) and they last 2-3 days longer.
Now researching has led me to believe that this is not a fibroid symptom - I am definitely not coming anywhere remotely close to heavy bleeding, so i was wondering if anybody else had experienced this or if there were any thoughts...
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Do you get these lighter periods several times a month? Obviously its hard to say not being an MD, but i can tell you that fibroids don't always result in massive periods. It sometimes depends on where they're located. I have two larger ones and for me it was mostly pressure symptoms like always feeling bloated, intestinal and bladder issues, and overall abdominal pains at times. Good luck!

Hi,
No just the once, and they are regular too.
I'll ask my GP when I see her.
Thank you

Hi, I just saw your post. Do you know where your fibroids are/the type of fibroid?
I have had health issues the past 5 years and was told I had fibroids about 4 years ago- they were on the outside of the uterus- pedunculated fibroids, where they grow on a stalk. As they were outside the uterus, they didn't cause heavy bleeding. My symptoms were extreme fatigue, abdominal bloating/pain and back pain. I was told by a few doctors/gynaes that they wouldn't cause me any symptoms because they were outside my uterus but they actually made me very unwell. Mine grew pretty big (15cm) and squashed and tilted my uterus back, this left me having very light and short periods. They also compressed my bowel and pushed into my back, causing me a lot of pain.
I had surgery to remove them 5 weeks ago- one of them had become 'parasitic' where it had outgrown it's blood supply so had tethered itself to all of my organs, taking on blood and nutrients to keep it growing. It's like Alien! It had also grown a large blood filled cyst. The surgeon thinks there may have been endometriosis inside the fibroid which caused the cyst and would maybe account for the bloating I would get.
What I had is apparently very rare but I thought it would be worth letting you know especially as I had been told for 4 years that there was no way my symptoms were caused by fibroids.
