Fibroids suspected, great deal of pain
Posted , 3 users are following.
I gave my GP a urine test which was clear but I keep waking up with abonimable pains in my lower abdomen and great difficulty weeing, so he is sending me for a specular and then if that shows nothing up a scan, he's quite good my Gp and meanwhile as the pain is so horrendous, and i do suspect fibroids or something like that, i put ibulieve gel all round the area and that seemed to ease things slightly, its painful to sit and type at the moment but I'll update you after my specular in nine days time. Sounds like you have oravian cysts that have ruptured. Years before I developed fibroids, I got cluster cysts on my ovaries for years. Not much the doctors will do about it except give you meds to ease the pain until the flare up is over. The best way to examine if you have either is to have an pelvic ultra sound. If you have fiborids the sooner you know the better. They can really be direuptive to your life. I've had them for over 10 years and it has been a real struggle!

I see, well an ct scan has been booked or will be after my specular so hopefully that will identify what is wrong. I'm going to insist they sort out what is wrong immediately as I was made to wait two and a half years before surgery was performed on my prolapsed bowel and I am not prepared to go through anything like that again, waiting wise.

Are you speaking of fibroids or cyst? There nothing they can do for cyst, except control them with BC. Fibroids on the otherhand, it's a bit more complicated than that, and it is not dye. For a CAT scan, they will IV inject you with dye to take the scan.

Yes I know that but a lady who comes on the forum said she'd had them for over 15 years and while she had to have a hysterectomy the procedure is they inject you with a dye that shrinks them so they no longer cause pain and blockages and it was through negligence that hers were left so long that she had to have a hysterectomy, I'm just saying I have a good relationship with my go and I am not going to PERMIT delays in treatment tomoccur, once bitten twice shy.

You could have a fibroid that is degenerating, so if you suspect fibroids at all, get it checked out asap. The NHS dragged its feet with me and even told me they would not get any bigger. Five years later, I went private and, lo and behold, the fibroids had almost tripled in size. A scan would have shown this sooner.

MRI guided High Frequency Ultrasonic Ablation is propably the procedure you are referring to. I don't know much about it, as it is not preformed much in the US. There are a total of 5 alternative ways to rid tumors without having a hysterectomy.

Right, yes sorry, I must have got confused, I knew they injected you with something, the pain with this whatever it is is quite profound so I'm phoning my GP yomorrow to have a chat about it, admittedly at the moment he's doing all he can, he's giving me a speculum test and has promised me a scan if nothing shows up with the former, but obviuosly I have questions so I'll chat to him tomorrow if he's free, thanks for putting me right.

That's worth knowing, thank you, I'll chat to my GP about it, he's good but I have sensed reluctance to deal with this and don't want the same situation developing as did with my prolapse as that was left so long it wasn't effective.

Fiona, my best suggestion for you is to do you own research before speaking with you physician. I have battled with fibriods for over ten years. When I was first diagnosed, I was told immediately, that I had to have a hysterectomy, and at that time they were very small and I was still in my 20's. UAE and the other 4 alternatives have always been available, but it was at the doctors discrestion weither or not to disclose the information. Once I started researching online, then presenting the options to my doctors. Hopefully your doctor is a doctor that is well rounded and is aware of the non permanent procedures.

Hi Diva, I can see that googling and even coming on here for advice is very necessary, I am so sorry you were poorly informed by your GP and many thanks as when I speak to him tomorrow I will be able to say I have already been informed there are about five different ways of shrinking them as I really can't face a hysterectomy, it is more surgery and I am 57 now so no spring chicken, I will always be grateful to any information that i am given on here or indeed on other sites and I just hope you can get some relief for your condition as ten years of it is not fair, if its anything like mine you are in pain, swollen and feel like you are going to burst and today I could only face a round of toast and later a cereal bar to eat all day. Very best wishes, Fiona

Hi Fiona, do you have heavy bleeding? If so I would think it's fibroids, or a fibroid degenerating, if not, it it may be fluid filled or solid ovarian cysts. I have had all 3 unfortunately. Cysts are the easiest to deal with, I had a lot of pain from them. Fibroids are generally less painful but cause bloating and bleeding. I am 58 and have several large fibroids, I have controlled them somewhat with Esmya, but have not got rid of them.

Hi Christine, I have no bleeding, but I feel like I have a solid block in there that is stopping me pee, and it will only trickle out, other times there is no stopping me and its extremely swollen and past couple of days particularly i have been in a great deal of pain, and had to take large ibuprofens, 400's. Can you tell me what Esmya is? Thanks

Hi, Esmya is a relatively new drug that works by inhibiting progesterone receptors. It can shrink fibroids usually by about 70%, over a period of a 3 month course (multiple courses are allowed, but usually with a gap of a couple of months rest). The problem is, it seems to just 'dehydrate' the fibroids so when you stop taking it the fibroids can grow again scarily quickly. But it usually stops bleeding completely after about 6 weeks of taking it, so can offer temporary relief from symptoms or shrink fibroids enough to make surgery easier and safer. It has menopausal side effects, some tiredness, dizziness, headaches and most annoying, hot flushes and night sweats. Hope this helps, and you get a diagnosis and treatment soon.
