Fibromyalgia and Accupuncture?

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi I am new to this forum but have found reading similar stories to mine very supportive. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia around a month ago after having symptoms for about 6 months and i have mainly been taking zapain and amitriptyline, although i have stopped the zapains since my diagnosis except for especially bad headaches.

I am wondering about anyones experiences with accupuncture and if it has helped any of their symptoms?? And also how long the effects lasted and whether it is quite expensive or not?

There is a chartered or registered chinese medicine place in town I am thinking of going to as it has good online reviews.

Any help, advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, alys.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for all your helpful replies,

and I havent had accupuncture yet but I had a back massage earlier today and it was pretty good, I thought Id just have a back one to try it out and my back isn't stiff and sore like it normally is,

I did have a spot below my shoulder blade that was particularly tender before and it was quite sore immediately after the massage too but my friend said there was a knot there and she had to work at it and now that its been a couple hours it feels much better and much less stiff,

It was a bit to get used to, and immediately after my back felt, not quite tender but like sensitive or something, but my back does feel great now, pain-wise it was quite a good day for me, as in its not the worst pain but still some init and I think I would be a bit too frail on a particularly bad day to be fair,

So my final verdict is it's definately worth a try, I am giong to get another one but have to wait a couple weeks as my firends on holiday so it'l be a good trial of how long it lasts I think,

Has anyone else found a massage helpful?

I have an appointment with my Dr next week and will ask about accupuncture then, otherwise I have found a Chinese Medicine place nearby that I'll go to if I cannot be referred,

thanks again for the great advice everyone,

    gentle hugs all round

Yes Alys; I always advocated massages/physio...and then afterwards you have your soak in the Epsom Salts Bath.....it is getting rid of the Lactic Acids that have built up in your body from over-use of muscles....as someone put it the other day (as they do with horses after a Race)  if you are covered by a Private Health Fund (as mine does)..it rebates on Remedial Massages and Physio....and when I say physio, I;'m wondering if some think that physio is only for other sports/post op reasons...nope, if you tell them you have Fibro, find one who knows re same, and you can have regular 2 weekly, as I do, to keep those muscles lax.......it is good that you are feeling less taut?painful muscles...it does make a big difference....I'm due today for neck, as I had to drive yesterday, and R) side of neck Very sore this am.....Bron
