Fibromyalgia and Free Floating Anxiety

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have not actually been diagnosed with Fibro, but by a process of elimination I seem to have it. Like everybody else I suffer with lethargy, inability to walk far, or do anything requiring energy without getting exhausted. Sleep badly and wake up unable to get up until at least mid morning. Get more or less constant pain. But I have a friend who suffers with free floating anxiety which also causes shortness of breath and chest pain and has symptons very much like mine. I wonder whether anybody has anxiety with fibro - or are they two completely different conditions?

I am on 20mgs of Amitriptilyne, but I would like to know if there is any other more effective medication available?

    Hi Yeldham

Welcome to the fibro site. I'm Liz and i have SLE, overactive thyroid and Sjogrens syndrome and possibly fibro but there is a difference of opinion on that one.

I have never heard of Free Floating Anxiety but I do know when i was told i had fibro I had really bad anxiety and very mild depression and i was told this was part & parcel of fibro. Along with IB and irritable bladder. I take Dosulepin 125mg at night which is the same group as amitriptilyne and have found i sleep much better and the muscle pain is less but thats about all. Its all about learning to pace yourself which i find impossible looking after 4 children.

I'm sure Tess, Linda, Di, Richard and Lindy will tell you how they cope.

    Wishing you a good day.

    Hi Yeldham

I am Tess and 53 with five children, two granddaughters and have fibro.

Was told last June but sure I have had it for several years. Like Lizzy i have thryoid trouble, irritable bladder and ibs. I also have some osteoarthritis.

What is free floating anxiety? I do get anxious when we have to go out socially and then my stomach starts up and triggers the ibs. Not really sure though whether due to fibro, medication or not having a thyroid gland and taking the thyroxine. Also going through the menopause so could possiblty be due to that. I know I feel worse when I go inside with lots of people and the door is shut. I feel really panicky. Not sure if it is also due to having had thyroid cancer. The treatment I had meant I had to be isolated for three days with a heavy steel door shut all the while.

I am sure some of the others like Lizzy said will come on and talk to you as well.

Tessa thanks for your reply. Free floating anxiety is that which my friend (and many others I expect) suffer from. It is anxiety which has no known cause. Comes and goes, or stays persistent all the time. It does include panic when in enclosed spaces etc, but I think yours seem more like panic attacks.

    All the best

Just my way of coping! Linda hope your alterations are coming on ok and you will be able to relax a little more. At least you will have it done out of the way before Christmas! Di hope you and John are both doing ok and he heres soon about having his pacemaker. Richard and Brian haven't heard from you in a while so hope you both are doing ok. Hi everyone,

Welcolm Marion, I`m Linda, 57, two children, carer to my husband and I have fibro, underactive thyroid, IBS just to mention a few :!:

Thanks for asking about adaptions, Tess, have to wait an extra week for lift now as had to cancel the inspector`s appointment on Thurs sad Ray had a fall first thing in the morning, no damage but spent morning at Addenbrookes :!: When we got home there were several missed calls on our phone from Mum`s neighbour, had to get my cousin out of work till I could get there, GP wouldn`t come out so had to take her to the surgery which is now in Queensgate, put her in Ray`s wheelchair (much to her disgust) She had only managed to take 8 tablets in 2 days instead of two :!: :!: Despite the fact she is not supposed to give herself her meds, carers are supposed to do it :!: Needless to say they got a piece of my mind. After lots of tests was able to take her home, but GP said to put meds under lock and key. So have bought a lockable box today and will put the key in her key safe so the carers can get it.

Just exhausted today sad Hoping to be able to go to the knitting and stitching show with Ann tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

    Hi Lizzy,

Yes thanks did manage to get to the show, it was nice just to do something normal for once, and not health related :!:

Does alan have to go somewhere this week or will they just write/phone to let him know :?: Don`t know how they can keep him hanging on like this, the waiting must be unbearable for you both :!:

Things are just catching up on me and feel really exhausted with odd aches and pains in funny places, so going to try for an early night, famous last words eh :!:

    Take care, Linda

Hi Linda, Lizzy, Di & Everyone!

Thats not very good Linda your mums carers not keeping an eye on her medication. Good idea to have it locked away and kept in a key safe.

What a worry for you with your mum and Rays fall. Hope they are both ok now. It must have been lovely for you to go with Ann to the show and just think about yourself for the day. You really deserve it with everything that is going on. Sorry to hear you have to wait another week for the lift to be done. Hope it is all sorted soon.

Lizzy what a long wait for you both! Must seem like forever. Why do they have to keep you waiting so long. Yes had a lovely day with Sophie last week. Only have Sophie now with Molly at school. No doubt will probably have Molly for a day during half term at the end of this month. Got Sophie again tomorrow for the day. She had her injections today and was a good girl bless her. Hope you get on ok at the doctors on Friday. Be thinking about you all!

Di hope you get on ok at the doctors on Tuesday! I have had some tablets from the doctor before to stop my period. Hope they can sort something out for you. Hope John gets on ok when he goes to the hospital on Thurs about his pacemaker. Its not very nice for you not being able to go out far.

Well I am on my own for the next four nights as Stewart is on night shift. Seems so quiet and not looking forward to when we change the clocks.

We are going away again on Friday to Matlock in Derbyshire to see the lights until Tuesday. Been cleaning the van again for our next trip. We are lucky as we go away on Stewart's four or five rest days. Feeling quite tired tonight so hopefully will sleep ok.

    Take care everyone!

    Hi everyone,

Good to hear from you Di smile Hope you and John get sorted, it will at least be something less giving you grief and causing more anxiety.

I suffer from depression with the fibro but had the depression first, due to all our health problems as a family in general. So not surprised that at times it`s worse now I`ve got Fibro as well. Pretty bad at moment, not coping with the hassle of the adaptions on top of problems with Mum`s dementia together with our own poor health. I know it will be worth it in the end just hope I don`t go completely under before it all gets finished. There always seems to be some health appointment, forms to fill in or builders to fit around each other sad and only me to deal with it all.

Sorry everyone just feeling very down and sorry for myself tonight, 90 mile round trip to Mum`s again tomorrow to lock her medicines away and sort out the key safe for the carers. Just know she is going to resist it being done, and I`m sure she will end up hating me for doing all these things. I know deep down it`s for her own safety, but it`s the one thing she has always dreaded, not being in control and not knowing what was happening to her sad

Well hope everyone else is feeling better than me,

    Linda
